Weather Update: Incoming Showers Ready to Crash Our Sunshine Party
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30pm on January 24, 2025
Well, folks, our beloved Fiji is about to experience a little mood swing courtesy of some moisture-laden east to northeast winds. Yes, you guessed it – the clouds are making their grand entrance alongside a sneaky trough of low pressure creeping in from the southwest, just when we thought it was safe to leave the house without an umbrella.
Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
For those in the Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Ra, Naitasiri areas, eastern Macuata, and Cakaudrove provinces, Kadavu, Taveuni, and its tiny island buddies, as well as the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups: prepare yourself for a cloudy situation! Showers will make their appearance, and you may want to brace yourself for some afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Isolated heavy rain might drop by for an unexpected party, and don’t be surprised if local heavy falls create a mini swimming pool in those low-lying areas.
For the rest of our lovely islands:
Get ready for a bit of patchy cloud cover with a side order of isolated afternoon or evening showers and some thunderstorm action. Isolated heavy falls might join in too, just to keep things interesting with localized flooding in some spots.
It’s gonna be hot and humid as Fiji turns up the heat, with temperatures soaring to between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius. It’s basically the weather’s way of saying, “Go hydrate or go home!” Expect moderate winds from the east to northeast, but don’t be shocked if the wind decides to pick up speed when those thunderstorms hit.
Now, looking ahead to Sunday:
Occasional rain and a few thunderstorms will roll their way over Yasawa Group, Northern, and various interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu. If you’re anywhere near Ra, Rakiraki, Tailevu, Suva, and the Coral Coast, better prepare for some splashy weather. Elsewhere, it’s partly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Yes, we’re bracing for more localized heavy rainfall – dinner plans outdoors may need to be reconsidered.
So, for our beloved Navua, Suva, and Nausori regions: Expect cloudy periods and those pesky afternoon thunderstorms.
Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba? You might think you’re safe, but beware of the cloudy skies with sneaky afternoon or evening showers with some thunderstorm action.
Sigatoka and Coral Coast, you guessed it: Cloudy with a splash of showers and thunder!
Tavua and Rakiraki, anticipate those lovely clouds and showers as well, accompanied by some thrilling thunderstorms.
Yasawa/Mamanuca group? Get ready for the clouds to dance above with heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms.
For Labasa, Savusavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups, the theme remains: clouds, showers, and a few thunderstorms marching in. Isolated heavy falls expected, of course.
Over in beautiful Kadavu, expect a similar story of cloudy skies, showers, and thunderstorms.
And last but not least, Rotuma? Well, it’s feeling a bit under the weather too, with a slow-moving trough nearby, bringing occasional showers and some thunder.
So there you have it, folks. As January winds down, our waters are primed for some flavor and excitement courtesy of nature! Stay dry, or at the very least, stay stylish with that umbrella!
