Weather Alert!

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

Situation Check: A stealthy trough of low pressure has decided to cozy up to our northeastern shores and is slowly making its way south, probably hunting for a sunny spot to crash. Prepare for a week filled with unexpected showers and the occasional thunderstorm—think of it as nature’s way of keeping things interesting!

Here’s the forecast for the Fiji group up until midnight tomorrow:

Today: The Yasawa group, Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti are set for some moisture action with showers and isolated thunderstorm parties popping up. Expect showers to become more frequent, perhaps taking on a ‘heavy’ vibe from later today. Meanwhile, on the cloudy side of town—Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Kadavu, and their tiny island friends can expect grey clouds and sporadic showers joining the mix. Elsewhere, you might just find some fine weather basking in solitude, though that could change with a few sneaky afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms crashing the mood, especially in the northern and eastern parts of Viti Levu.

Tomorrow: Showers will take center stage with heavy performances over the Northern Division, Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups, while Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra will also get in on the fun. Other areas might enjoy some sunny moments, but don’t be surprised if a mischievous evening shower or two show up uninvited.

Heads-Up: Localized heavy falls could lead to flash flooding, so keep an eye on your surroundings if you’re in a low-lying area. Expect those southeast winds to be moderate to fresh—might want to hold onto your hats!

Outlook for Thursday: More rain and a sprinkle of thunderstorms over Lau, Lomaiviti, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Kadavu, and some neighboring islands. The rest of the group can expect cloudy spells with a few showers and the odd thunderstorm trying to steal the spotlight.

Forecasts for specific locations:

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Prepare for a cloudy mix today with some showery chaos, followed by thunderstorm shenanigans later. Things will be on repeat with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms tomorrow.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Fine weather might fool you today but remain cautious of surprise afternoon shows. Tomorrow, the skies could get dramatic with occasional showers becoming heavy, along with thunderstorm guest appearances.

For Sigatoka / Coral Coast: You’re looking at fine weather, too, but be ready for surprise showers later. Tomorrow looks a little moody—occasional showers and thunderstorms might just show up.
