Get ready to play “spot the sunshine,” folks, because it looks like the clouds are making themselves quite at home across Fiji this weekend. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi unleashed this delightful weather forecast at the crack of dawn on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

The situation? Well, there’s a very chill trough of low pressure hanging out over the Northern and Eastern parts of the country, making it the unofficial host of a cloudy, showery party that might last for a few days. Meanwhile, the winds are having a little dance-off, flowing southeast to northwest and ensuring that nobody’s going to be in a hurry today.

As we roll into tonight, expect occasional showers—sometimes heavy enough to make you think a water balloon fight has broken out. Thunderstorms may join in too, especially over the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. If you’re in Sigatoka, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Yasawa, or Kadavu, don’t be surprised to see some cloudy periods and a few sprinkles of rain. It’ll be all sunshine and rainbows elsewhere, except for those cheeky afternoon or evening showers that just can’t help but show up.

Now, let’s talk about the potential for flash flooding in low-lying areas, because that’s always a party crasher. On that note, if you’re out sailing, may want to brace yourself for moderate to rough seas!

Looking ahead to Monday, the show continues with more cloud cover and isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. For those in Navua, Suva, and Nausori, cloudy periods with some showers are expected, and hey, keep the umbrella close—you never know when those heavy downpours will decide to make an entrance.

Over in Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba, it’s all fine and dandy—unless you count those rogue afternoon showers and thunderstorms. In Sigatoka, expect clouds and showers with the classic evening thunderstorm special.

For Tavua and Rakiraki, it’s not quite a sunshine extravaganza either, with a similar forecast of fine weather interrupted by the occasional shower and thunder.

Yasawa and the Mamanuca group are experiencing a mix of clouds and showers, while Labasa and Savusavu are gearing up for some solid showers and a sprinkle of thunder.

As for Rotuma, it’s not quite escaping the weather party either—with those showers and a chance of thunderstorms continuing to affect the region.

So whether you’re welcoming the rain with open arms or giving it the side-eye, stay dry and keep that sense of humor handy—it’s going to be a wild weather ride! Stay safe!
