Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:16 am on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Good news! The heavy rain warning that had us all dreaming of building arks has been downgraded to just a friendly alert. But don’t toss out your umbrellas just yet! A strong wind warning is still swirling around the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, northern Vanua Levu, western and northern Viti Levu, Kadavu, and their assorted island buddies.

Currently, a trough of low pressure is strutting its stuff across the country, bringing with it clouds and rain. Meanwhile, we have a moist northwest wind flow, which sounds romantic but is just the weather’s way of saying “I’m a bit damp.”

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: Strong north to northwest winds could gust up to 55 km/h in land areas like Yasawa and Mamanuca, and along the coastal stretch from Sanasana all the way to Rakiraki. Don’t worry, the winds will start to take a chill pill later today.

In other parts of the country? Expect moderate to fresh winds, rough seas, and occasional rain that will eventually ease up tomorrow. Keep an eye out for sneaky thunderstorms – they might just cause some flash flooding in low-lying areas where water has a tendency to throw a party!

Looking ahead to Saturday: Occasional showers and a few thunderstorms will likely crash the party over Navua, Suva, and surrounding areas. Here’s hoping they bring snacks!

For today in Navua / Suva / Nausori: Get ready for some rain with a high of 30 degrees. Tomorrow, temperatures dip slightly to a cozy minimum of 24 with a maximum of 30.

Natadradave/Korovou: Same story – rain, rain, go away! High of 30 today and a low of 24 tomorrow.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: You guessed it, occasional rain today with a high of 30, easing tomorrow.

Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Expect those strong winds as we buckle down for a high of 30 today and a 24 to 31 swing tomorrow.

Tavua/Rakiraki: Facing the same gusty challenge, with winds and rain to match. High of 30, easing tomorrow.

Yasawa/Mamanuca group: The winds will keep you entertained with gusts, rainfall, and that same delightful 30-degree high, easing tomorrow.

Over in Labasa: Hold onto your hats – the same strong winds and occasional rain await, with a 30-degree high today and a slight drop tomorrow.

Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, and even Lau and Lomaiviti group: You’re not escaping either, expect that rain to make an appearance with highs of 30 today, easing tomorrow.

Kadavu, just like the rest, you’ll see those same strong winds and rainy antics, hitting a high of 30.

For Rotuma, the strong wind warning remains – perfect for windsurfing if you’re brave enough! Expect northwesterly winds, rough seas, and occasional heavy rain. Today’s high reaches 29, dipping to a comfortable 24 tomorrow.

So, rain or shine, it looks like Fiji’s weather has its own little comedy show going on. Stay dry, stay safe, and maybe even embrace the spontaneous dance-off that comes with unexpected rain!
