Grab your umbrellas and life vests, folks! A HEAVY RAIN WARNING is currently in effect across the Fiji Group. This means that the skies might suddenly decide to throw a surprise water party, so it’s best to be prepared!
On top of that, we’ve also got a FLASH FLOOD ALERT for the Western Division stretching from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki. If you’ve ever wanted to experience a little “surprise pool party” at home, now might just be the moment to learn how to float!
And not to forget, a STRONG WIND WARNING is dancing through the land areas of the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu and neighboring small islands, as well as Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Macuata, Bua, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands. So, hold onto your hats (and your laundry)!
Here’s the scoop on the situation: Tropical Cyclone URMIL, currently hanging out about 480 kilometers southwest of Kadavu, is behaving like that one friend who can’t take a hint and keeps crashing the party. It’s moving southeast and is currently sprinkling the western and southern parts of Fiji with its active rain bands and strong northwesterly winds.
Here’s what you can expect until midnight tomorrow:
For the Western Division (Including Yasawa and Mamanuca):
Brace yourselves for strong north to northwest winds averaging about 45 km/hr, with gusts reaching up to 75 km/hr—time to hold onto your pool floats! Winds will chill out a bit tomorrow.
For Macuata and Bua Province:
They’re in for moderate to fresh north to northwest winds, escalating to strong gusts around 40 km/hr with gusts up to 60 km/hr. Seas are looking rough to very rough out there, so it’s a perfect time to practice your best “I’m not scared” face.
For everyone else in Fiji:
Expect moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds that might surprise you with a gust here and there, along with the occasional rain—don’t worry, it’s not your fault if you do a little rain dance!
Forecast for Tuesday: More of the same—occasional rain with the chance of heavy bursts and a few surprise thunderstorms. Keep your raincoat handy, folks!
