Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30 PM on this festive New Year’s Eve of 2025, and we’re ringing in more than just confetti—think rain, rain, and oh, a bit more rain!

Attention all residents (and party animals) in the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti Group, Kadavu, and some of our adventurous smaller islands: a Heavy Rain Alert is in effect! Yes, that means there’s a good chance your plans to dry off from the holiday feasts might just get hijacked by a few uninvited showers! If you’re within the lush greenery from Momi through to Rakiraki, and the charming interiors of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga-Namosi, it’s time to consider those highly fashionable rain boots.

But wait, there’s more! Some rain previously expected in other regions has decided to pack its bags and leave the party early. For the next little while, a trough of low pressure descends upon us like an uninvited relative during the holidays, teasing us with occasional rain and sporadic thunderstorms. It seems like our weather has taken inspiration from a drama series—full of twists and turns, showering us until tomorrow!

Looking ahead to midnight tomorrow:

In the aforementioned regions of Northern Division and friends, consider the forecast a mix between an impromptu water fight and a splash of sunshine. Think of it like discovering the leftovers from last night’s party: occasional rain followed by some more frequent showers. Just in case you were hoping for a serene evening, pack an umbrella as the skies might unleash their drama on occasion.

As for the rest of us, we’ll also be experiencing cloudy spells with a side of showers, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms that might just inspire a few indoor activities and board game nights. The winds will be a bit moody—rolling in from the north for now, but transforming to the sultry south by tomorrow.

Now, let’s scope out the local scenes:

– **Navua / Suva / Nausori**: Expect your festive evening to be a tad soggy, with occasional rain and those ever-so-certain thunderstorms. Plan for tomorrow: Min: 24, Max: 29. And keep that umbrella at hand for Friday!
– **Natadradave/Korovou**: Rain might join the party tonight, but it will ease up tomorrow. Min: 24, Max: 29.
– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: The rain plans to show up but will clear tonight, leaving tomorrow to potentially bask under sun-kissed skies—Min: 24, Max: 30.
– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba**: You might want to keep an eye on the sky as cloudy periods and a sprinkle of showers are anticipated. Tomorrow’s inviting you in at Min: 23, Max: 32.
– **For our remote soulmates in the Yasawa/Mamanuca Group**: Rain, meet thunder! This weather combo will wrap up soon. Tomorrow: Min: 23, Max: 31.

For the tropical islands of **Rotuma**, don’t forget your raincoat, as a Heavy Rain Alert remains in effect with gusty winds possibly testing those sturdy palm trees. Expect a cozy minimum of 25 but manage those thunderstorm expectations.

So whether you’re toasting with a tropical drink under a canopy of clouds or turning your living room into a cozy nest for game nights, make sure to stay weather aware. Here’s to a wetter, but still fabulous New Year! Cheers!
