Weather Update

Attention Fiji: It’s raining cats, dogs, and maybe a few hesitant iguanas today, as a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in effect for our beautiful islands. So, if your plans included a picnic or a beach day, it’s probably best to reschedule and get cozy with your favorite umbrella instead. Don’t worry, it will still be there when the sun returns, just a little soggy.

For those in Vanua Levu, don’t say we didn’t warn you! A FLASH FLOOD WARNING is now in place. Vitilevu, you’re on alert too, so keep your floaties handy just in case.

What’s going on? There’s a stubborn trough of low pressure just hanging out to the southwest, bringing in clouds and rain that will crash the party for most of the country today. After that, expect a little breeze from the northeast, as if Mother Nature is finally getting around to cleaning up her mess.

Tonight, expect occasional rain, and a few thunderstorm guests who may arrive uninvited and heavy, just like your aunt at family gatherings. The rain will start to ease up later tonight in the Northern Division and will follow suit across the rest of the Fiji group. But do keep an eye on those low-lying areas; they might just decide to host their own little flash flood.

For those with plans to venture into the sea, be cautious as the waters are moderating into rough seas.

Here’s a humorous glimpse into your forecast for tomorrow, Monday:

In the eastern and interior parts of the larger islands, prepare for some cloudy periods with a side of shower action. Elsewhere, we’ll have sunny spells with perhaps a light sprinkle in the afternoons or evenings – you know, just to keep everyone on their toes!

– **Savusavu**: Expect rain and thunderstorms for today, with showers easing off later. Tomorrow will see more of the cloud cover, with a few additional showers for good measure. Min: 25, Max: 32.

– **Nabouwalu, Taveuni, and other islands**: You guessed it—rain, thunderstorms, easing later today, and a few showers tomorrow. The whole package deal for a splashy weekend.

Lastly, for the charming Rotuma island, it’s expecting some occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms. However, don’t worry; those breezy Northeasterly winds will keep things interesting at sea! Min: 25, Max: 32.

So, grab that raincoat, and let’s embrace the weather. Remember, no such thing as bad weather—just inappropriate clothing! Stay safe, Fiji!
