Weather Update: January 1, 2026

Attention, weather-watchers! The heavy rain alert for our northern division friends, along with the lovely islands of Lau, Lomaiviti, and Kadavu, has been canceled. So feel free to put away those rubber boots – for now.

Here’s the scoop: A pesky trough of low pressure is busy showering the eastern parts of Fiji with its cloudy charm, while winds are blowing in from the south and north, clearly unsure of their true direction.

The forecast until midnight tonight looks a bit like this: Expect occasional showers and some isolated thunderstorms across areas like Coral Coast to Navua and the Greater Suva/Nausori-Tailevu area. If you happen to be in the interior regions of Ra, Naitasiri, or the provinces of Southern Bua and Cakudrove, don’t forget your umbrella! Just a reminder that isolated heavy rain could turn your usual stroll into a splash zone.

Fortunately, if you find yourself in other parts of Fiji, you might just enjoy some fine weather—albeit with a potential afternoon shower or thrilling thunderstorm just to keep you on your toes.

As for our esteemed winds, they’re moderate to fresh and still trying to decide between southerly and northerly. And you might want to steer clear of the seas for a bit, as they’re looking moderate to rough.

Looking forward to Friday? Here’s the forecast: cloudy periods accompanied by some showers and a few thunderstorms in Greater Suva, Naitasiri, and the provinces of Southern Bua and Cakudrove. Heavy falls are likely, which could make some of those low-lying areas feel more like swimming pools.

In areas like Navua, Suva, and Nausori, expect occasional showers and those electrifying thunderstorms. The minimum temperature will be around 24 and a maximum of 29 degrees. For those in Natadradave and Korovou, similar weather conditions apply.

Over on the Coral Coast, expect fine weather with just a few afternoon sprinklings and maybe a thunder buddy showing up.

In Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba, brace for some delightful sunshine with a chance of those playful afternoon storms trying to crash the party.

For Tavua and Rakiraki, cloudy skies with showers are our forecast companions, while the Yasawa and Mamanuca group can expect fine conditions—just a little sprinkle in the afternoon to keep things interesting!

Meanwhile, our friends in Labasa, Savusavu, and Nabouwalu will have to contend with cloudy periods and occasional showers, perfect for a cozy indoors day with a book or your favorite show.

And on Rotuma, it’s still raining cats and dogs, with occasional heavy downpours and a side of thrilling thunder – just your daily reminder to navigate carefully!

So grab your umbrellas, enjoy the splendid weather (or the sprinklings), and stay tuned for the delightful dance of the weather in our gorgeous Fiji!
