Weather Alert
Greetings, island dwellers! It’s that time again – the sky is preparing for a dramatic performance, and Mother Nature is at the helm! Issued straight from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at the crack of dawn this fine Thursday, January 23, 2025, here’s what you need to know about your day.
Current Situation: We’ve got a moist northeast wind flowing through our paradise, making things warm and sticky – perfect for those who enjoy feeling like a ripe peach! But don’t put your sunscreen away just yet because a cheeky trough of low pressure, complete with clouds and showers, is making its way from the west to spice things up later today.
Forecast till midnight for the Fiji group:
For the Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Ra, Naitasiri areas, and our lush islands like Kadavu and Taveuni: expect cloudy periods featuring some showers, afternoon or evening thunderstorms, and possibly some heavy downpours – you might want to call a lifeguard for the low-lying areas!
For the rest of Fiji: Things will be partly cloudy with a sprinkle of afternoon or evening showers and the occasional thunderstorm. Heavy falls are likely lurking around the corner, and let’s not forget about the localised heavy downpours that could make some areas take on a bit of a water park vibe!
We can anticipate moderate northeasterly winds and seas that could make you reconsider that snorkeling trip you planned.
Outlook for Friday: Prepare for more of the same! Cloudy periods, showers, and isolated thunderstorms will continue to haunt the Serua-Namosi, and buddies around Suva, Nausori, and more. While elsewhere remains partly cloudy, afternoon excitement awaits in the form of showers and thunderstorms.
Here’s your specific breakdown:
For Navua/Suva/Nausori: Heavy clouds with showers and thunderstorms rolling through—looks like an umbrella might not be a bad accessory tomorrow.
For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Partly cloudy, but don’t let your guard down; showers and thunderstorms could sneak in like an uninvited guest.
For Tavua/Rakiraki: Expect a mix of cloudy spells and the occasional shower—think of it as nature’s way of providing a complimentary spa day.
For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Keep that sunhat handy; it’s partly cloudy with a chance of a thunderstorm. You might want to start crafting those paper boats just in case!
For Labasa: Partly cloudy again, with a sprinkle of showers and storms.
For Savusavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti: Keep your umbrellas ready; showers and thunderstorms want to crash your party.
And let’s not forget our friends in Kadavu and Rotuma, where there will be gloomy periods and thunderstorms aplenty.
So, get your rain dance practices ready—there’s plenty of action in our forecast, but hey, at least we’ve got more planets to spin! Stay safe, stay dry, and remember, every cloud has a silver lining… unless it’s filled with heavy rain!
