Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi—because who doesn’t want to know if they’ll need an umbrella or a surfboard?

As of 10:45 am on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, a weak trough of low pressure is draping itself over the Fiji group like a cozy blanket, bringing along some clouds and showers to keep us all on our toes for the next day. Meanwhile, we’ve got southeast winds blowing in, making sure it doesn’t get too stuffy around here.

Here’s what we’re looking at for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow: Expect some cloudy moments with showers hanging out like uninvited guests in Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Lau and Lomaiviti, Kadavu and the delightful tiny islands nearby, Taveuni, Qamea, Cikobia, and Yasawa. And don’t be surprised if afternoon or evening thunderstorms decide to crash the party with heavy falls.

On the bright side, elsewhere might just enjoy fine weather—provided those isolated afternoon or evening showers don’t stop by unannounced.

Winds are moderately picking up from the east to southeast, so hold on to your hats! They will eventually do a little dance and become strictly southeasterly starting tomorrow. The seas? Moderate—so just enough for a good boat trip without needing Dramamine.

Looking ahead to Saturday: Expect more cloudiness and possible showers over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Lau and Lomaiviti, Kadavu, and the usual party crashers—Taveuni, Qamea, and Cikobia. Everywhere else? Just fine, except for the occasional isolated shower that seems to have a penchant for afternoon or evening visits.

Time for the localized gossip!

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect a cloudy day that may sprinkle a few showers, with thunderous applause from the skies expected in the afternoon or evening.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Fine weather decides to stick around, but be aware of those sneaky isolated showers popping up in the afternoons or evenings.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Similar story of fine weather with the odd isolated shower trying to steal the spotlight in the afternoons or evenings.

For Tavua/Rakiraki: Lucky folks here can also enjoy fine weather—unless those isolated showers decide to crash the afternoon or evening again.

For Natadradave/Korovou: Prepare for a bit of a cloudy affair with showers sprinkled in, and brace for the thunderous applause in the afternoon or evening.

For Yasawa/Mamanuca: The Yasawa gang might see some clouds and showers, but the rest is likely to have fine weather broken by those pesky afternoon or evening sprinkles.

For Labasa: A continuation of fine weather here, just a few isolated afternoon or evening showers to keep things interesting.

For Savusavu: Expect clouds and showers—possibly with a fiery afternoon or evening thunderstorm to spice things up.

For Lau/ Lomaiviti: It’s more clouds and showers, with afternoon or evening thunderstorms likely to put on a spectacular show.

For Kadavu: Expect some grim clouds and showers with the possibility of thunderstorms adding a dramatic flair in the afternoon or evening.

And for our island friends in Rotuma: You’ll enjoy fine weather with brief showers trying to make an appearance now and then. The fresh easterly winds might follow with moderate to rough seas—perfect for a bit of adventure, so don’t forget to check your boat’s seaworthiness!

So stay tuned, enjoy the mixed bag of weather, and remember: an umbrella might just be your best friend today!
