Weather Update

Welcome to your daily dose of weather fun, straight from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, brought to you at the charming hour of 10:45 am on Thursday, January 8, 2026!

Alright, folks, it looks like we’ve got a little trough of low pressure throwing a surprise party across the Fiji group. That means you may want to grab your umbrellas (or your best dance moves) because clouds and showers are rolling in from the west and planning to crash the party southeast!

Here’s what to expect before the clock strikes midnight tomorrow:

Cloudy periods are on the agenda, with some showers and sporadic heavy downpours setting up camp over Nadi-Lautoka-Ba, Tavua-Rakiraki, Tailevu North, Naitasiri-Ra, and other areas such as Yasawa, Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and their mini islet buddies.
Outside of those areas? Prepare for fine weather—well, until the afternoons or evenings, when showers might start popping up like unwanted guests. There’s also a chance of dramatic thunderstorms, so keep your eyes (and ears) peeled! Flash flooding could make a guest appearance in lower lying areas, just to keep things interesting.

As for winds, think moderate to north/northeast today, but expect a turnaround towards easterly tomorrow. The seas are matching the mood—moderate, gently waving their hands, with no major outbursts in sight.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the sky is cooking up more cloudiness with expected showers over Navua, Suva, Nausori, and friends in the south. Just like today, expect isolated thunderstorms and a chance for those pesky heavy falls to make an appearance, so don’t forget your raincoat!

For specific areas:

– **Navua/Suva/Nausori**: Fine until the afternoon—when showers and thunderstorms are likely to spice things up. Today’s Max: 31, Min: 24.

– **Natadradave/Korovou**: Similar vibes—expect some light-hearted showers and the occasional thunderstorm. Max: 31, Min: 24.

– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: Chill today, apart from some pesky afternoon showers. Max: 32, Min: 24.

– **Nadi/Lautoka/Ba**: A little cloudier, with some good showers rolling in and a possibility of heavy falls. Max: 31, Min: 23.

– **Labasa**: Clouds may hang around a bit longer here, alongside some heavy showers. Max: 33, Min: 21.

– **Rotuma**: The party continues with occasional showers and maybe some fireworks in the form of thunderstorms! Max: 29, Min: 25.

Stay savvy, Fijians! The weather might be a bit moody, but that’s just how it is sometimes. Keep your wet weather gear handy, and who knows, you might just end up having a muddy-good time.
