Fiji Weather: Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected across most islands as southeast winds push rough seas on 30 April 2026

Stormy weather over a tropical beach with palm trees and dark clouds.

A southeast flow will keep most of Fiji partly cloudy with brief showers in a number of islands, while much of the group stays generally fine. Isolated afternoon or evening showers are possible widely, with the greatest chance of brief rainfall and an occasional thunderstorm in the interior of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh from the southeast and seas moderate to rough.

Areas most likely to see brief showers include Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove and southern Bua, as well as Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere, conditions should remain mainly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers, with a small chance of isolated thunderstorms developing in inland parts of the larger islands.

The outlook for Saturday remains similar: cloudy periods with some showers over the same groups (Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby islands, Lau and Lomaiviti, Kadavu), while other areas stay mostly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. Isolated thunderstorms are again possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Local details: Navua/Suva/Nausori and Natadradave/Korovou can expect partly cloudy skies with brief showers and temperatures around 22°C to 31°C. Yasawa/Mamanuca will be mainly fine with a slightly warmer low of 23°C and a high near 31°C. Sigatoka/Coral Coast, Nadi/Lautoka/Ba and Tavua/Rakiraki should expect generally fine conditions apart from afternoon or evening showers and a risk of isolated thunderstorms; temperatures range from about 22°C to the low 30s (Nadi/Lautoka/Ba to 33°C, Tavua/Rakiraki to 32°C). Labasa is similar, fine apart from isolated showers or thunderstorms, with 22°C to 33°C. Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu are forecast partly cloudy with brief showers and temperatures near 22°C to 31°C.

Rotuma will see a southeasterly wind flow with a nearby trough to the north. Expect cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thunderstorms, moderate to fresh southeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas. Temperatures there are forecast around 24°C to 32°C, with the outlook for Saturday remaining on the cloudier side with some showers.

Boaters and coastal communities should be mindful of the moderate to rough seas and fresh southeast winds. Brief heavy showers or isolated thunderstorms may produce localized downpours and lightning, so exercise caution if spending time outdoors or at sea.
