Weather Update from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi

Listen up, fellow Fijians! Grab your umbrellas and make sure your rain boots are on standby because we’re knee-deep in a heavy rain warning. Yes, that’s right! The Fiji Group will be under the splash zone for a while longer, so don’t forget to check out the Special Weather Bulletin for all the juicy details on heavy rain at www.met.gov.fj/alerts.

If you’re on Viti Levu, please be aware that we have a flash flood warning in effect—consider it nature’s way of reminding us to stay on our toes! And just a heads-up for our friends near the Nakauvandra River, Yaqara River, Tavua River, and the, shall we say, slightly submerged flood plains of the Ba River: it’s full-on waterworks time! Flood alerts are also in place for thrill-seekers near the Nadi, Nawaka, and Tuva Rivers. So, it’s officially not a good day for canoeing, folks!

Now let’s talk about those gusty winds that previously wreaked havoc across the western division and nearby islands – rejoice! That warning is officially done, but it’s still blustery out there, so hold onto your hats or you might just be auditioning for a new weather-related reality show!

As for the nitty-gritty forecast: Expect the wet stuff to continue falling, with occasional downpours and possibly some as-yet-uninvited thunderstorms crashing the party over the next couple of days. Rain will ease up starting tomorrow, but why rush it? It seems Mother Nature has set her mood to “shower” for now!

Here’s a quick look at what you can expect for the next couple of days:

For the bustling hubs like Navua, Suva, and Nausori: Keep your rain gear handy with a minimum of 25°C and highs reaching around 30°C. The forecast is showing occasional rain showers, and a few thunderstorms – quite the combo of nature’s special effects!

And the trend continues for pretty much everywhere – from Natadradave to Sigatoka, Nadi to Tavua, and further afield to Yasawa and Labasa, it’s all about the rain game. You’ll be looking at a minimum of 25°C, peaking at 30°C. Make sure not to confuse the sounds of raindrops with a drumroll for those isolated thunderstorms expected!

Wednesday looks like it will bring the same weather picture – showers galore and possibly warm waterfalls, with isolated heavy rainfall to stir up some excitement.

As we move on to the picturesque island of Rotuma, a heavy rain alert remains in effect. Expect the skies to keep spilling their contents intermittently, accompanied by gusty winds and moderate seas. With temperatures hovering around 25-30°C, you might want to perfect your indoor dance moves as outdoor activities may not be the best idea for now.

Stay dry, Fiji, and remember – sometimes you just have to go with the flow!
