Weather Update

Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, at the very civilized hour of 3:30 PM on this fine Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

Heads up, folks! If you’re in the Northern Division or the Northern Lau Group, it’s time to grab your umbrellas, build an ark, or at least find a good movie—there’s a HEAVY RAIN ALERT in effect. Yes, it’s that time again when water seems to fall from the sky more than we need!

Here’s the scoop: A delightful little trough of low pressure, accompanied by a cloud party, is lounging to the northeast and plans to drift southward. Kind of like that friend who overstays their welcome but brings snacks. This means we can expect cloudy skies and some refreshing showers in the Northern Division and Northern Lau Group starting tomorrow. If you thought that was it, brace yourselves, because those showers are on a trajectory to turn into rain.

Moving to Eastern Viti Levu (which includes glory spots like Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra), we can also anticipate some cloudy periods sprinkled with brief showers that will ramp up into frequent rain. And for those in other regions, it’ll be mostly fine—except for a few afternoon or evening showers. It’s like weather roulette—will you or won’t you need that umbrella?

Also, if you hear some thunder, don’t worry; it’s just Mother Nature reminding us who’s boss! Expect moderate breezes blowing from the northeast to southeast, and a sea that’s moderate to rough—perfect for making you reconsider that early morning swim.

Looking ahead to Thursday, keep your rain boots handy; occasional rain and thunderstorms are likely over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the smaller islands.

Now, as we break down the weather for various places, note that everyone will likely have a splash or two of precipitation so don’t let the sunny forecasts fool you—Mother Nature has a knack for surprises!
