Weather Alert – Fiji: Friday the 13th Edition!
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 4:38 AM, because let’s face it, what better way to kick off Friday the 13th than with a heavy rain alert for the entire Fiji Group? If you thought today was going to be a beach day, hold off on the sunscreen!
Here’s the scoop: A cheeky trough of low pressure has decided to crash the party, bringing along an entourage of clouds, showers, and possibly a few bolt-throwing thunderstorms. Expect this weather shindig to stick around until Saturday!
Forecast for today: The Fiji group gets to enjoy occasional rain – and when I say occasional, I mean it’ll be raining cats, dogs, and maybe even a few thunderous elephants over the Northern Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, as well as parts of Viti Levu (we’re looking at you, Korolevu-Sigatoka, Nadi-Ba-Tavua, and Ra-Rakiraki).
Elsewhere, you can look forward to occasional rain, sprinkled with some isolated heavy downpours and potentially shocking thunderstorm drama. So, if you see flashes and hear rumbles, don’t worry, it’s just Mother Nature’s way of announcing her presence.
But wait, there’s more! With all this rain, we could see flash flooding in low-lying areas. So keep your floaties handy just in case! We’ve also got moderate to fresh northerly winds adding a bit of flair to the forecast, and seas that may be occasionally rough enough to make even dolphins reconsider their surf spots.
Looking ahead to Saturday: Expect brief showers in the northern parts of Viti Levu (that’s right, Ba-Tavua-Ra-Rakiraki) and a hint of fine weather pretty much everywhere else—except, of course, for the obligatory afternoon or evening showers that like to creep back in.
For your specific spots:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Rain with a sprinkle of heavy falls and a chance of thunderstorms, fining up tomorrow. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Expect rain that wants to hang out but will ease off tomorrow. Min: 24, Max: 30.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: Rain is in charge, heavy at times, saying goodbye to downpours from tomorrow. Min: 24, Max: 30.
– Savusavu: Similar theme, but don’t worry, sunshine will join the party tomorrow. Min: 25, Max: 31.
– And for Rotuma: It’s no different, adding some jazz with moderate to fresh winds and possibly rough seas. Min: 25, Max: 31.
So keep your umbrellas close and your spirits high! A little rain never hurt anyone… unless you forgot your umbrella!
