Weather Update: Comedy Edition

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi on this fine Sunday, January 4th, 2026, at 11:44 AM.

Grab your umbrellas, folks! There’s some dramatic meteorological shenanigans brewing just northeast of Fiji as a shallow low pressure system shimmies its way westward, bringing along a moist breeze that could make even the clouds a little too friendly.

Here’s your forecast for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow:

Prepare for occasional showers, where rain may fall with enough enthusiasm to remind you of those over-excited party guests. If you’re in Vanua Levu, Taveuni, or the Northern Lau group, watch for those pesky afternoon or evening thunderstorms, possibly practicing their tap-dancing routine. Heavy downpours may take the stage, causing puddles that might just be deep enough to hide a mermaid or two.

Now, for Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Southern Lau, Lomaiviti, and Yasawa groups, expect cloudy periods with a generous sprinkling of showers and similar thunderstorm theatrics. Persistent heavy rainfall could lead to some flash floods in low-lying areas, so make sure to keep your flip-flops on when you’re dodging those surprise lakes!

Winds from the southeast to northeast will gust occasionally and seas will range from moderate to rough. So, if you were counting on a peaceful kayaking trip, it might be time to rethink that plan.

Outlook for Tuesday: Expect more cloud cover and isolated heavy showers, especially around Vanua Levu and Taveuni. It’s almost as if Mother Nature is trying to redecorate!

Now, onto specific areas:

Navua/Suva/Nausori: Expect it to be a delightful mix of clouds and showers with occasional thunderstorms. Max today is 31 but tomorrow’s mini saga has a min of 24 and a max of 31.

Natadradave/Korovou: Clouds are your companion today, with a max of 30. Tomorrow’s forecast is a tad more showered up, featuring a 24 and back to 30 degree extravaganza.

Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Today is shining with a perfect 31, but keep an eye out for sneaky afternoon showers. The same goes for tomorrow with a max of 31.

Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: It’s sunny but don’t let your guard down! Those afternoon showers and thunderstorms could crash your BBQ party with max temps of 33 today and tomorrow as well.

Tavua/Rakiraki: Today’s warm embrace reaches 32, while tomorrow’s forecast promises a repeat performance.

Yasawa/Mamanuca: Expect a cloudy party with a touch of thunderstorms. Max today is 32 and you guessed it, a repeat tomorrow for maxs!

Labasa: Grab your raincoat for occasional showers today with a toasty max of 33. Tomorrow brings a similar forecast.

Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni and Kadavu can expect a rollercoaster of occasional showers and thunderstorms throughout – so bring your rain dance shoes!

And for Rotuma, you’re flouting the rain system with mainly fine weather, reaching a max of 31 today.

That’s your weather tease for now! Enjoy the rain dance and let’s hope those thunderstorms remember to stay away from dinner time!
