Fiji Weather Forecast: Weak Trough Brings Showers and Thunderstorms with Flood Risk Across the Islands

Weather Update

Gather ’round, weather enthusiasts! Here’s your bulletin from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, hot off the press at 7:30 PM on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

It seems that a rather timid trough of low pressure is lingering over Fiji like a guest who just won’t take the hint and leave. But fear not! This weather mooch is expected to finally say its goodbyes later tonight. Meanwhile, there’s another trough lurking to the west, slowly creeping towards us before it too decides to fade away in the southwest like a magician’s rabbit.

In the meantime, a moist easterly wind is sweeping in, so prepare to embrace that delightful dampness!

Here’s what you can expect for the Fiji group, at least until midnight tomorrow:

Today: Think cloudy with a hint of drama! Expect some showers in the interior and eastern parts of Macuata, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, and of course, the lovely Eastern Taveuni, along with its nearby smaller island pals. Not to forget, the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu (from the daring Serua-Namosi through the bustling Navua-Suva-Nausori up to Tailevu North), Kadavu, and additional mini-islands. Other than that, you might want to grab an umbrella since afternoon or evening thunderstorms are likely — heavy downpours are possible which could turn those low-lying areas into unplanned water features.

Tomorrow: Get ready for more of the same cloudiness, mixed with brief showers over the mentioned regions. Yes, it’s like we’re stuck on repeat: impoverished clouds getting cozy with the rain! Elsewhere, expect cloudy periods with a sprinkle of isolated showers in the afternoon or evening. Gentle to moderate easterly winds should keep us cool in between the raindrops. Oh, and don’t forget your seasickness pills – moderate to rough seas are on the forecast menu!

Saturday Outlook: Yep, it’s still cloudy out there! With some showers and possibly isolated heavy falls or thunderstorms shaking things up in the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Southern Bua, and other worry-prone areas. In other places, keep an eye peeled for a few sneaky afternoon or evening showers and, yes, more thunderstorms popping up like uninvited guests!

Let’s zoom in on specific areas:

For Navua/Suva/Nausori: It’s cloudy, accompanied by showers. But don’t worry — some of those showers plan on easing tomorrow! Expect a temperature jump from a cozy 22 to a max of 28 degrees. The Saturday mood stays similar!

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Afternoon thunderstorms and the possibility of isolated heavy showers will keep you on your toes today, but tomorrow brings a chance to enjoy just isolated afternoon or evening brief showers. We’re talking about temperatures from a minimum of 22 to a sizzlin’ 31 degrees!

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Tighten your umbrellas, folks! Thunderstorms are in the forecast today. Tomorrow, expect calmer weather with isolated brief showers.

For Tavua/Rakiraki: Cloudy and moody with a chance of thunderstorms today, but tomorrow we ease into isolated brief showers.

And for the Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Yes, you guessed it—cloudy with a dash of thunderstorms today. Tomorrow, hold the mini showers!

For Rotuma: Ah yes, there’s a weak little trough hanging around, promising showers as it attempts to gain prominence. Expect moderate to rough seas — yikes!

So buckle up, Fiji! Whether you’re dancing in the rain or just trying to dodge it, stay tuned for more weather antics as we continue this cloudy (but potentially amusing) adventure together!
