Fiji Weather Forecast: Trough of Low Pressure Brings Widespread Showers, Thunderstorms and Flood Risk

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A cheeky little trough of low pressure is throwing a cloudy party with occasional showers over the northern and eastern regions of Fiji. It’s going to be the kind of day where your weather app might become your best friend (or worst enemy).

As we tiptoe towards the midnight hour tonight, expect those clouds to get a bit frisky. Occasional showers are crashing the party and bringing along their buddies—isolated thunderstorms with some heavy downpours in the Northern Division (yes, we’re talking about Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and their lesser-known island friends). If you’re in the Interior or the eastern parts of Viti Levu, don’t forget your raincoat and galoshes; it could get a bit splashy, especially in Serua-Namosi through to Tailevu North. The same goes for our pals in Kadavu, Lau, Lomaiviti, and those nearby smaller islands. Flash floods might just join the fun in the flood-prone areas, so keep your eyes peeled!

Everywhere else? Well, it will mostly be fine—apart from a possible surprise shower or two in the afternoon or evening; you know how those showers love to crash the BBQs uninvited. Winds will be moderately east to southeast, freshening up now and then, while the seas will be moderating to rough—so maybe skip the deep-sea fishing today.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the forecast is much like today—a repeat performance with showers, possible heavy floods, and thunderstorms in the same regions as before. But don’t let that rain on your parade! Elsewhere, expect some lovely cloudy periods with just a chance of afternoon or evening showers. Windy conditions will hang around like a persistent friend, with the seas maintaining their slightly moody vibe.

Here’s the nitty-gritty for your favorite spots:

Stay dry, stay safe, and don’t forget to wiggle your toes in the sand when the sun shines!
