Fiji Weather Forecast: Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Over the Weekend

Fiji Weather Forecast: Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Over the Weekend

Weather Alert: The Cloudy Chronicles

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:00 PM on the night of April 4th, 2025.

Current Vibes: We’ve got a southeasterly wind flow cruising on through, giving everyone a very breezy welcome.

Here’s what to expect before the clock strikes midnight on Saturday for the Fiji group:

Things are looking quite cloudy across Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Southern Bua, and Cakaudrove. Showers are the uninvited guests crashing the party tonight!

Meanwhile, if you’re in Lau and Lomaiviti groups, or Kadavu and its smaller companions, expect to enjoy some fine weather – unless you’re throwing an afternoon or evening picnic, in which case, you might want to keep an umbrella on standby because brief showers could show up just in time for dessert!

For all you sun-chasers scattered elsewhere, it’ll be mostly fine, but expect a few cheeky afternoon or evening showers and possibly a pop-up thunderstorm – like a surprise party you didn’t sign up for!

Watch out for localized heavy downpours that could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas – no one wants to turn their yard into a water park! And while you’re out navigating the waves, seas will be moderate to rough, so hang onto your hats—or surfboards!

Looking ahead to Sunday: Cloudy periods and showers will again be the theme over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, along with Kadavu and nearby little islands. Expect more fine weather elsewhere—unless, of course, it’s the afternoon or evening, when those brief showers may sneak in to keep things interesting.

For specific locations:

Navua / Suva / Nausori: Cloud cover and some showers are in store. Sunday will bring the same mix of clouds and sprinkles.

Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Sunshine galore, with only a chance of some afternoon or evening showers and surprise thunderstorms. Sunday looks sunny with just a sprinkle risk in the afternoon or evening.

Sigatoka / Coral Coast: A cloudy spell with some showers. Sunday shines just briefly, with only a sprinkle chance later!

Tavua / Rakiraki: Cloudy over Rakiraki, with some showers in attendance. Fear not though; other areas will be fine with just minimal shower action later on. Sunday looks just as fine!

Yasawa / Mamanuca group: Mostly fine, though the sky may decide to get creative with an afternoon sprinkle or thunderstorm. Sunday promises the same sunny vibe, with a little sprinkle in the evening.

Labasa: Fine weather overall, but keep an eye out for an afternoon or evening shower and possibly a thunderstorm. Sunday will continue fine, with just a brief sprinkle warning.

Savusavu: A good mix of cloudy moments and showers. For Sunday, expect more of the same trend.

Lau / Lomaiviti: A fine play day with just a sprinkle chance in the afternoon or evening. Sunday, prepare for cloudy periods alongside those familiar showers.

Kadavu: It’s mostly fine out there, albeit with a few afternoon or evening showers and a lightning show or two. Sunday looks sunny with brief showers likely to pop in.

Rotuma: We may have a weak trough of low pressure lounging nearby. Expect cloudy periods with showers and the occasional thunderstorm. Moderate easterly winds are in effect, with seas staying moderate.

Sunday’s outlook remains similar with clouds, showers, and those unexpected thunderstorm visitors.

Stay dry, folks, and keep your umbrellas handy—especially during picnic season!
