Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, this is your forecast for the Fiji region, issued on a lovely Monday night, the 24th of March 2025.
So, here’s the scoop: Two troubling troughs of low pressure are hanging out just northwest and east of Fiji. What’s that mean for you? Well, it looks like those clouds and showers are planning to stick around for a while, like an uninvited guest who insists on staying for another round of dessert.
As we look towards midnight Tuesday, expect occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms particularly over Yasawa, Kadavu and those cheeky little islands in between. The eastern half of Viti Levu — that’s from Serua/Namosi through Navua to Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra — is also in for some cloudy moments with showers. It’s a good time to have an umbrella handy, just in case those clouds decide to have a little fun with some heavy rain.
And don’t let the clear skies fool you in other areas; expect partly cloudy conditions with those sneaky afternoon or evening showers creeping in. Our favorite weather feature, afternoon thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, will make a flashy appearance over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Just a friendly warning: localized heavy falls could stir up flash floods in low-lying areas. Make sure your flotilla is ready!
Winds will be moderate and east to northeasterly, but they might get gusty during heavy rain or thunderstorms, so hold on to your hats! Seas will also be moderate, giving them just enough energy for a bit of splashy fun.
Now, looking ahead to Wednesday: expect more cloudy periods with showers and those ever-so-popular isolated thunderstorms, particularly over the eastern part of Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and anywhere else you can think of. Afternoon or evening showers will be the norm elsewhere, so keep that umbrella at the ready!
In the Navua, Suva, and Nausori area, prepare for clouds and showers, with tremors of thunder expected in the afternoons.
For Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba, enjoy the partly cloudy heaven with those pesky afternoon or evening showers popping up – local heavy falls may join the party.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast can expect a similar situation – a friendly gathering of clouds, with some showers and thunderstorms trying to steal the show.
Tavua/Rakiraki will see rain cloud parties in Rakiraki, while the rest of the area remains partly cloudy with some showers.
For our island friends in Yasawa/Mamanuca, occasional showers will join your beautiful sunsets, with some stormy fellows visiting for the afternoon or evening.
Labasa can expect a similar theme, partly cloudy skies with expected showers and thunderstorms, while Savusavu will also have cloudy patches and thunderous afternoons.
Lastly, for our buddies in Lau and Lomaiviti, it’s more of the same with occasional showers and thunderstorms weaving through the forecast.
And if you’re on Rotuma, brace yourself as a trough of low pressure swings by, bringing occasional showers and thunderstorms like an over-enthusiastic party crasher. But don’t worry, those showers should ease later.
So gear up for a mix of fun-filled weather days, stay dry, and remember – if it’s raining, it’s just nature’s way of washing the island’s rooftops!
