Hold onto your hats (and umbrellas) because a low-pressure trough is doing the cha-cha over the northern part of our beautiful islands! This dance will bring some cloudy partners and a couple of rain showers that will linger around longer than your aunt at a family gathering. Let’s break it down for the next 24 hours across the Fiji group:

Expect occasional showers with a side of thunderstorms over Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, and those smaller nearby islands. The Northern Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and parts of Viti Levu are also invited to this wet party. Just be prepared for some unexpected heavy downpours—after all, who doesn’t love a good surprise?

If you’re in the other areas, you might find it’s generally fine, apart from those pesky afternoon or evening showers that seem to pop up like uninvited guests. There’s a chance of thunderstorms crashing the party with heavy bursts over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, so keep your raincoats handy!

Watch out for localised heavy rains that can turn a gentle puddle into a mini swimming pool in low-lying areas. Winds will be moderate, blowing southeast to northwest, and the seas? A bit moderate but can get rough around the edges.

Looking ahead to Thursday: Ocassional showers will be the main course over Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, Yasawa, and Mamanuca, with some dining on afternoon or evening showers elsewhere. Thunderstorms with a hefty dose of heavy falls are still in play for Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, so don’t forget your rain boots.

Here’s the scoop for your favorite locations:

Navua / Suva / Nausori: Occasional showers with a sprinkle of thunderstorms. Outlook for Thursday: More showers.

Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Probably fine, except for some cheeky afternoon showers and an on-again, off-again relationship with thunderstorms. Thursday’s forecast is a repeat performance of the same.

Sigatoka / Coral Coast: Looking fine, unless the afternoon or evening decides to shower you with some love and a side of thunderstorms. Expected Thursday: Same delightful pattern.

Tavua / Rakiraki: Prepare for some occasional showers and a dash of thunderstorms over Rakiraki, while the rest of the area keeps it clear, apart from those pesky afternoon showers.

Yasawa / Mamanuca Group: Occasional showers and the potential for some thunderstorms to tag along. Thursday’s forecast: More of the same.

Labasa: Expect those occasional showers with a sprinkle of thunderstorms. Thursday’s forecast: Generally fine but watch out for the surprise showers.

Savusavu: Keep your umbrella close; it’s the same song: occasional showers and thunderstorms are still on the playlist.

Lau / Lomaiviti: Don’t pack away those umbrellas just yet; expect occasional showers and storms. Thursday is on repeat.

Kadavu: Showers and thunderstorms seem to love you; don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Rotuma: An easterly breeze will keep you company; expect some fine weather interrupted by brief showers. Thursday’s vibe includes cloudy periods with more showers and maybe some thunder to liven things up.

Stay dry, stay safe, and above all, stay entertained as our weather plays its April Fool’s prank on us!
