From the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi
Reported at 7:30 PM on Friday, May 23, 2025
Attention, Fiji! We’ve got a big ol’ trough of low pressure packing its bags and heading south, right toward us! It looks like it’s aiming to stay for a while, potentially turning our weekend into a cozy rain fest until Sunday. Grab your umbrellas and perhaps a good book!
Forecast until midnight tomorrow includes:
– Occasional rain with the chance of an intense downpour over popular locations like Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, Ra, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Kadavu and the relatively smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. So, if you’ve been wanting to practice your rain dance, now’s the perfect chance!
– Cloudy skies with some showers (and possible heavy falls) will linger over Yasawa, Sigatoka, and the rest of Vanua Levu.
– For other areas, it’s looking fine, though you might still need to keep your umbrella on standby for those sneaky afternoon or evening showers.
– Nights will be cool, perfect for snuggling up and pretending it’s winter.
– We’ll have moderate to fresh easterly winds and seas that might be moderate to rough. Hold on to your hats!
Looking ahead to Sunday:
– Expect more rain with isolated heavy falls hitting the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. But don’t worry, that rain should lighten up and just deliver some casual showers by the end of the day.
– There’ll also be some showers over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, Ra, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, and Kadavu. Elsewhere, it’s shaping up to be mainly fine (so if you feel left out, don’t fret!).
– Nights will remain cool, ideal for some hot cocoa.
– Moderate southeast winds will blow in occasionally, with seas still showing a moderate to rough personality.
Specific forecasts for various locations:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Expect some rainy spells and cool nighttime vibes.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Cloudy periods are expected, with potential heavy showers. Cool nights are on the menu.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Looking at mostly clear skies, aside from the odd evening shower.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Occasional rain could make an appearance in Rakiraki, with fine weather elsewhere.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Cloudy moments with showers. Cool nights await.
– Labasa: Similar deal with cloudy days and potential heavy showers.
– Savusavu: Occasional rain will sprinkle the area again.
– And over in Rotuma: Prepare for a mixed bag of showers, potential thunderstorms, and some easterly breezes to keep things interesting!
So, folks, grab your raincoat and anticipate some moisture-filled excitement! Stay cozy, and may your weekend be sprinkled with just the right amount of rain to make your plants (and playlists) happy!
