Weather Update
Greetings from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, where we bravely take on the elements (mostly from the comfort of our desks). At 11:00pm on Sunday, January 26, 2025, we’ve got some exciting weather news for our beloved Fiji islands!
What’s happening? Well, there’s an easterly wind sauntering around the group, and a trough of low pressure is coming in, like that one friend who over-stays their welcome. Expect it to arrive later today!
So, what should you expect before the clock strikes midnight on Monday?
For you fabulous folks in Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Ra, Naitasiri, along with eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Kadavu, Taveuni, and those charming smaller islands, as well as Lau and Lomaiviti, prepare for occasional showers with a special appearance from isolated thunderstorms—those little sparks of drama! Heavy falls may also drop by, uninvited.
Now, for the rest of you dazzling Fijians, the skies will be partly cloudy with some afternoon or evening showers and the occasional thunderstorm showing up fashionably late, along with potential heavy falls for good measure. Keep your umbrellas handy, folks; we don’t want them feeling neglected!
And did we mention the tropical sauna vibes? With temperatures climbing to a steamy 31-34 degrees Celsius, it’s going to be hot and humid enough to feel like you’re in a warm hug (not that anyone’s complaining about that).
Don’t forget about those breezy moderate easterly winds, which will be transitioning to northeasterly. Just a little gustiness in areas experiencing heavy falls and thunderstorms, so brace yourselves! Moderate seas might also make waves; literally!
Looking ahead to Tuesday, we’ve got more of the same—occasional rain and some thunderstorms trying to steal the spotlight across most of the country with moderate east to northerly winds at play. Don’t worry, we’ll keep things exciting!
As we break it down for specific areas:
– Navua, Suva, and Nausori: Expect those occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms, because why not?
– Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba: A mix of partly cloudy skies alongside afternoon showers and the occasional dramatic thunderstorm.
– Sigatoka and Coral Coast: More of that fabulous combination of clouds, showers, and thunderous excitement in the afternoons.
– Tavua and Rakiraki: Brace for showers, isolated thunderstorms, and heavy falls. The weather is clearly feeling intense!
– For the Yasawa and Mamanuca group: Keep those clouds coming with afternoon showers and thunder.
– Labasa, Savusavu, and Kitava: Showers and thunderstorms are all set to dazzle.
– Lau and Lomaiviti, as well as Kadavu: Occasional bouts of rain and thunderstorms are the stars of the show.
– And for you lucky folks on Rotuma: That trough of low pressure will also treat you to some heavy falls and thunder—it’s simply the season’s must-have!
So there you have it, a whimsical weather forecast that’ll keep you guessing. Remember, when life gives you showers, make sure you’re ready to dance in the rain! Stay safe and enjoy!
