Weather Update

Broadcast from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi
at 10:45am on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Hold onto your sun hats, folks! A southeast wind is blowing over the Fiji group, and it’s bringing along a few uninvited clouds. A sluggish trough of low pressure is hovering over the southern part of the islands, much like a guest who just won’t leave the party. Expect those clouds and showers to stick around in the southern and eastern regions today, while a new trough of low pressure is gearing up to crash the party from the north, making its grand entrance by Monday.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Get ready for some occasional showers with a sprinkle of isolated thunderstorms – that’s right, it’s a weather buffet! Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, as well as the southern Lau group, are in for some heavy falls, so grab your umbrellas. Meanwhile, the Lomaiviti and rest of Lau group will face cloudy periods with a side of thunderstorms and isolated showers. Isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls – dessert for the weather aficionado!

For the rest of us in the Sigatoka-Coral Coast-Korolevu, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra-Rakiraki, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, and nearby islands, expect cloudy periods with brief showers, though you might win the fine weather lottery if you’re elsewhere – just a couple of isolated afternoon or evening showers to spice things up. And for you northern adventurers, occasional showers are making their way in from later Monday. Isolated thunderstorms may also join the fun, especially over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Moderate southeast winds will sway to east and southeast tomorrow, while the seas remain as moderate as your uncle’s excuses for not joining in on family activities.

Outlook for Tuesday: More showers with isolated thunderstorms are on the menu over Northern Bua, Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, and the Yasawa and Lau groups. Don’t worry; the rest of us can look forward to partly cloudy skies, brief showers, and some late-in-the-day excitement with occasional showers rolling in. Just a heads up, local heavy falls could lead to flash flooding, so pace yourself if you’re planning to swim with the floodwaters!
