Weather Update – December 21, 2025

Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi

Well folks, grab your umbrellas and waterproof socks because we have a little weather shindig going on! A very persistent trough of low pressure is hanging out over the Fiji group, bringing along some clouds, showers, and possibly a thunderstorm or two—talk about a party crasher!

Forecasting until midnight tomorrow, get ready for some occasional showers that might just decide to get heavy and throw a thunderous tantrum, especially if you happen to be in Vanua Levu, Taveuni, or the nearby smaller islands. Eastern Viti Levu (consider Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Naitasiri-Tailevu-Ra), Lau, and Lomaiviti group—you’re in the prime storm-viewing area. On the flip side, if you’re located elsewhere, expect some cloudy spells with afternoon or evening showers—it’s like Mother Nature can’t make up her mind!

Heads up: isolated heavy rainfalls could lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas, so don’t forget to check your floaties! With moderate to fresh easterly winds whipping up, make sure your umbrella is ready to become an acrobat during those gusty moments.

Now, on the seas? Moderate to rough swells are in store—consider this your warning to reconsider any plans for leisurely fishing—unless you enjoy your catch with a side of adventure!

Looking ahead to Tuesday: Expect more cloudiness with streaks of showers over eastern Viti Levu, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups, plus a casual sprinkle over Cakaudrove and Southern Bua. Meanwhile, other areas will remain fine, aside from those sneaky afternoon or evening showers. The winds will still be brisk, promising another exciting day.
