Fiji Weather Bulletin: Strong Wind Warning in Eastern Fiji with Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Flash Flood Risk

Weather Report

Good morning, my fellow weather enthusiasts! It’s time to buckle in and hold onto your hats—or perhaps your umbrellas—as we dive into today’s tempestuous forecast!

A STRONG WIND WARNING is still in play for the eastern realms of Kadavu and the smaller islands nearby. If you happen to be traipsing around the eastern half of Viti Levu (that’s from sunny Sigatoka to the scenic shores of Nausori), the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, you might want to avoid skydiving today, as gusts could reach up to 45 km/hr! On a brighter note, the wind warning has been lifted for Rakiraki and other less wind-blown areas, allowing them a respite from being human kites.

We find ourselves under the influence of a moody trough of low pressure, bringing cloud cover and rain that will be playing hard to get until Thursday. Meanwhile, an easterly wind is swirling over the nation, ensuring that no one is left dry all day.

Here’s what you can expect by midnight tonight across our beloved Fiji:

Brace yourselves for some windy shenanigans—easterly winds of up to 45 km/hr will continue to whip through the Eastern parts of Kadavu and the eastern half of Viti Levu, while the rest of the archipelago enjoys slightly tamer breezes and moderate seas. The seas have been known to be a tad rough, so perhaps rethink that pirate ship excursion!

Rain lovers, rejoice! Occasional rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are making themselves at home in the interior and eastern parts, especially in Macuata, Cakaudrove, and Southern Bua. So, go ahead and channel your inner rain dancer—not that it’s going to take much coaxing!

Keep in mind that persistent local downpours might transform those low-lying areas into temporary lakes, so don’t forget to wear your galoshes if you head out!

Looking ahead to Thursday, expect a sequel of cloudy antics, sprinkled with showers and a surprise thunderstorm or two in the interior and eastern Viti Levu. For folks in the western region, you’ll see partly cloudy skies, occasionally showering in the afternoon or evening.

Now, let’s sprinkle some specifics on various locations:

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Occasional rain will come knocking, along with uninvited thunderstorms. Rain will ease to showers as the day goes on. You’ll enjoy a cozy minimum of 22°C and a maximum of 28°C.

Over in Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: It’s partly cloudy with evening shenanigans in the form of showers and thunderstorms. Temperature ranges from 22°C to a steamy 31°C.

For the Botanical beauties in Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Expect a little cloud flirtation with evening showers and the possibility of thunderstorms. Minimum temperature of 22°C and maximum of 30°C will keep things toasty.

Tavua/Rakiraki: Get ready for those occasional rain bouts, which will ease up by later today. Your temperature forecast sits at a minimum of 22°C and a maximum of 31°C.

Onward to the north: Yasawa/Mamanuca, Labasa, Savusavu, and Taveuni, gear up for some rain and storms as you ride the weather rollercoaster with similar min-max temperatures to revel in.

And finally, our lovely friends in the Lau and Lomaiviti group, enjoy a day of occasional rain, isolated thunderstorm visits, and temperatures remaining constant at a minimum of 22°C to a maximum of 29°C.

And over in Rotuma, where the winds will whip through and occasionally let attach a brief shower, expect a comfortable outing with a forecast of minimum 23°C and a maximum of 32°C.

So there you have it, folks! Stay dry, or at least invest in a colorful umbrella. Until next time, may the weather be ever in your favor!
