Weather Update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 10:45 AM on Friday, November 21, 2025
Hold onto your hats, folks! A STRONG WIND WARNING is still in play for the adventurous souls on the land areas of Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and its tiny companions, as well as Taveuni and its neighboring isles. If you thought your last haircut was wild, just wait till you see what this weather does to your ‘do!
And it’s not just the winds that are up to no good! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is also in effect for the eastern half of Viti Levu – think of it as nature’s way of giving your umbrella a workout. We’re talking about Serua-Namosi through Navua-Suva-Nausori to Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra areas, and yes, that includes some of our other salty friends: Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu.
Here’s what’s cooking in the weather kitchen: A moist southeasterly wind flow is dominating our skies. Plus, watch out! A trough is sneaking down from the north, likely to boost those breezy easterlies starting tomorrow. So get your parrot to hold onto the mast!
Forecasting gloom (with a splash of humor) till midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: Picture cloud-filled panoramas with some showers throwing tantrums in the form of isolated thunderstorms. Keep an eye on Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra-Rakiraki, the ever-busy Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and for those island hopping around Lau and Lomaiviti, and of course, Kadavu. The showers are expected to shift gears into proper rain, with the possibility of heavy falls and thunder making its grand appearance later today.
Elsewhere, expect a funny mix of fine weather and occasional afternoon or evening showers, with the occasional thunderstorm crashing the party. Just enough to keep everyone on their toes! Localized heavy falls could turn low-lying areas into surprise water parks, so watch out!
And what about those fancy winds? Prepare for some strong southeasterly gusts zipping through at speeds of up to 45 km/hr in Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, Taveuni, and their small island buddies. Elsewhere, it’ll be moderate to fresh southeasterly winds for a gentle breeze, but for the real thrill-seekers, winds are set to pull a switcheroo and become easterly tomorrow.
On to the seas! Get ready for moderate to rough waters out there – a perfect environment for the aquatic daredevils among us.
Outlook for Sunday: Occasional rain (heavy at times – how generous!) along with a few thunderstorms in Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, and all those other friendly areas we’ve mentioned. Meanwhile, it’ll be partly cloudy elsewhere with those mischievous afternoon or evening showers crashing the scene again.
As for the detailed region-specific forecasts, here’s the scoop:
