Fiji Weather Bulletin: Low-Pressure Trough Brings Widespread Showers and Thunderstorms with Southeast Winds

Weather Update
Brought to you by the ever-enthusiastic National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi
at a bright and breezy 5:30 AM on this fine Friday, 17th of October 2025.

Situation: It appears we have a low-pressure trough playing tag over our northern islands, deciding to drift south and sprinkle some thrills over our lovely Fijian group later today. Meanwhile, the southeast winds are feeling quite cozy, settling into a nice flow over the country.

Forecast for tonight across the Fiji group: Expect a light show of some showers and the occasional rumble of thunder, especially in the Northern Division, Taveuni, and its tiny companions—Cikobia & Qelelevu. Don’t be surprised if those showers become more frequent as the day goes on.

In the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu (think Serua-Namosi through to Suva and Nausori right up to Tailevu North), as well as Kadavu and nearby islands, expect the clouds to gather for a party with showers and a thunderstorm or two crashing the festivities from later today. On the upside, the rest of you can enjoy mostly fine weather, with only the occasional rain dance in the afternoon or evening.

Southeast winds will be moderate, freshening up at times, so don’t let them blow your hat away! The sea is moderate too—considered just choppy enough to keep your seafaring friends on their toes.

Outlook for Saturday: We’ll keep this weather rollercoaster going with occasional showers and the possibility of isolated heavy downpours and thunderstorms especially about the Interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, among others. It seems afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms will also be the theme for day two.
