Weather Update
Greetings from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi! As of this fine Saturday morning (10:45 am, if you’re curious), we have quite the weather drama unfolding across Fiji.

Attention! A HEAVY RAIN WARNING has pulled up a chair and made itself comfortable in the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu, and their little island buddies. Meanwhile, Macuata and Northern Bua Provinces have been given a light nudge with a HEAVY RAIN ALERT, just to keep things interesting.

Now don’t get too cozy yet, because we’re also rolling out the STRONG WIND WARNING for the Western Division, Yasawa, Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu, and nearby islands. It’s like a wind party, and everyone’s invited! Macuata, Bua, Taveuni, and friends in nearby smaller islands are also getting a STRONG WIND ALERT, just to spice things up a bit.

Here’s the scoop: A shy little trough of low pressure is slow dancing above Fiji with clouds and showers, not making any quick moves. Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone URMIL, who seems to have a penchant for drama, is hanging out over Vanuatu and planning to swing by Fiji tonight, bringing a strong northwesterly wind flow and some rather enthusiastic rain bands just in time for your Saturday evening.

So, what can you expect today and tomorrow?

For our friends in the Western Division (Yasawa, Mamanuca, Kadavu and those smaller islands):
Prepare for occasional showers—think of them as rain’s way of saying hello—with some isolated heavy falls and even a thunderstorm or two for added flair. Expect the rain to decide to party hard from later today! Get ready for moderate to fresh north to northwest winds that will sweep in at around 45 km/h, with gusts that could swish past you at a whopping 75 km/h. And yes, those seas will turn rough, like they’re auditioning for a stormy sea movie.

In Macuata and Bua Province:
Things will get a bit soggy with occasional rain—heavy at times and the occasional thunderstorm that might just crash the party. Those localized heavy falls could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, so stay on your toes! You’ll feel moderate to strong winds (about 40 km/h, with some gusty bits) racing through your hair, along with rough seas to keep things lively.

For Lau and Lomaiviti groups:
Expect showers with that same feisty touch of isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms. Winds will kick it up a notch or two, reaching strong speeds of around 45 km/h with gusts of 75 km/h tomorrow.

Everywhere else:
You’ll likely have the company of occasional showers, with the chance of heavy falls and thunderstorms lurking around. Expect moderate to fresh winds with a mischievous gust here and there, and seas that are anything but calm.

Looking ahead to Monday:
The Western Division and the surrounding islands may continue their rain party, complete with heavy showers and thunderstorms. We’re talking localized heavy falls that could lead to some flash flooding—best keep those boats close to shore! In the rest of Fiji, the clouds will remain busy with occasional showers and that thrilling touch of lightning.

Now, for the specific hotspots:

– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Showers (bring on the umbrellas!) and thunderstorms. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– Natadradave/Korovou: A similar shower showdown awaits. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Strong winds and showers are lined up. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Showers galore with that chance of thunderstorms as well. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Expect the same for your delightful islands. Min: 25, Max: 30.

We’ll also keep our friends in Labasa, Savusavu, and Nabouwalu in the loop with similar conditions—showers and thunderstorms will be knocking on your door too.

Rotuma, you’re getting your fair share of occasional showers along with a sprinkle of thunderstorms. Min: 25, Max: 30.

Remember folks, it’s good to have your rain gear at the ready, and maybe a sturdy hat to handle those windy guests. Stay dry and enjoy the weather rollercoaster!
