Weather Update Alert

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:30pm on Thursday, January 15, 2026

Grab your umbrellas and your metaphorical floaties because a HEAVY RAIN WARNING is still making itself at home in the northern and eastern parts of the Fiji Group. But good news! It’s packing its bags for the rest of the country, so let’s wave goodbye while we sip our rainwater smoothies.

And don’t forget, we have a FLASH FLOOD WARNING in place for ALL of Fiji. Keep your flood-prone areas, small rivers, and streams on high alert, people!

In other news, a STRONG WIND WARNING has been lifted for the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, which means you can put down your wind socks and quit worrying about your hair looking like a tornado victim in those areas. However, hold onto your hats in the coastal areas of Rakiraki, Tailevu North, Bua, and a few more places that sound like they need their own travel brochures!

Currently, we have an active trough of low pressure unfurling over the northern and eastern regions, playing the rain game through Sunday.

The forecast before midnight tomorrow for the Fiji Group predicts fresh to strong northwestern winds whipping through at speeds of 38 to 45 km/hr – that’s enough to send your lawn decorations flying into next week! Expect gusts reaching up to 60 km/hr, especially in places that seem to just love the edge of the storm.

Rough seas – think of it as Mother Nature’s version of a roller coaster!

As for the rain situation, we’re looking at some serious downpours, accompanied by the occasional thunderstorm jaunt over Ra, Naitasiri, Tailevu North, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the neighboring islands. Other areas can expect a cloudy day with sporadic showers and the delightful surprise of afternoon thunderstorms.

Heads up! If heavy rain falls persist, we could see some flash flooding in low-lying spots and areas historically used to being soaked!

For your Saturday outlook: Keep your rubber boots handy as we anticipate occasional rain over various regions and some continued thunderstorms.

Now, let’s dig into the nitty-gritty for specific spots:

– **Navua / Suva / Nausori:** Expect cloudy periods, oh joy, with some showers and a good chance of afternoon fireworks in the form of thunderstorms. Max today? A muggy 29 degrees!

– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:** Get ready for a breezy ride with fresh to strong winds, cloudy periods, and yes, more showers! It’s reaching a delightful 30 degrees today – perfect for indoor activities!

– **Sigatoka / Coral Coast:** Same story here; the clouds have taken over with showers and a chance of thunderstorms ruining afternoon plans. We’ll also be hugging the 30-degree mark.

– **Taveuni/ Kadavu / Rotuma:** Fresh winds and sporadic rain should keep you on your toes. It’s 30 degrees today, so no need to bring your winter coat!

So bundle up under a roof or find your favorite cozy spot, and let the rain symphony serenade you, Fijians!
