Hold on to your umbrellas, folks! It appears that Mother Nature is in a particularly moody mood today. A heavy rain alert is still firmly planted over the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and those little islands nearby that might just need a name tag. So, if you had plans for a sun-soaked beach day, think again!
The weather is being influenced by a low-pressure trough gathering clouds and showers like it’s trying to win a competition for the fluffiest cloud. And just when you thought you could escape, here comes Tropical Depression [TD09F] sneaking up from Vanuatu. Don’t worry, it’s not expected to throw a wild party, but it will be ensuring that strong and moist northwesterly winds come your way starting Saturday.
Now, here’s what we’re really looking at through midnight tomorrow for our vibrant Fiji group:
For the Western Division and Kadavu, prepare for occasional showers that might seem continuous once they get going. There’s a good chance of thunderstorms making everyone’s hair frizz right up! Expect moderate northerly winds that transition to fresh-to-strong north to northwest winds. Think wind gusts like your favorite roller coaster, averaging a speedy 40km/hr but capable of throwing a curveball with gusts reaching 60km/hr. And if you thought the seas were calm, think again—expect them to be rough to very rough!
Over in the Interior and Northeastern parts of the larger islands like Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, and even as far as Taveuni, Kadavu, and the Lau groups, occasional showers with a hint of thunderstorms want to drop in uninvited. They promise heavy falls too, so if you see puddles forming, you may want to grab some marshmallows for that unexpected indoor camping!
As for other regions, it’s partly cloudy with a sprinkle of afternoon or evening showers mixed with a thunderstorm. But don’t let the clouds get you down, the localized heavy falls could make for some impressive splash zones in low-lying areas!
Looking ahead to Sunday, it’s a drama still unfolding! The Western Division and Kadavu will get their share of rain—perhaps enough to fill a kiddie pool or two—along with gusty winds reaching 40km/hr and thunderstorms shaking things up.
For Navua, Suva, and Nausori, expect showers to continue like that one friend who overstays their welcome. Temperatures will range from a cozy 24 to a warm 31 degrees.
The Coastal and island communities such as Yasawa, Mamanuca, and Kadavu, all set your sights on the skies as thunderstorms plan to crash the parties with occasional showers.
And for Rotuma? Well, they’re experiencing quite the dramatics too, with occasional heavy showers and a decent chance of thunderstorms.
In conclusion, keep those raincoats handy and maybe consider hosting a cozy board game night indoors. Remember, sunshine will return one day—but for now, enjoy the “drops of joy” raining down! Stay dry out there!
