Weather Alert—Rainy Days Ahead!
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:30pm on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Hold on to your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in full swing for the Western Division and the delightful island of Kadavu. If you’re planning to frolic outside, maybe consider the old saying: “Dancing in the rain is recommended, but just not today.”
With a charmingly slow-moving trough of low pressure hovering over Fiji, you can expect cloud cover and showers to become your new best friends. In other words, moist north to northeast winds are blowing your way, so be prepared to get cozy!
Forecast until midnight tomorrow: Occasional showers are on the menu, with extra dollops of isolated heavy downpours and the occasional thunderstorm. That’s right! Expect a rainy fiesta over the Western Division, and the interior and eastern parts of the larger islands (hello Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, and friends), as well as Taveuni, Lomaiviti, Lau, Kadavu, Yasawa, and the Mamanuca groups.
While those regions are getting showered, elsewhere you’ll find partly cloudy skies with afternoon or evening showers and a splash of thunder and lightning that would impress the gods.
Localised heavy showers could lead to flash floods in low-lying areas, so maybe keep that swimwear handy just in case! Expect moderate north to northeast winds that might pick up a bit, and don’t forget, the seas are moderate to rough—perfect for a boat adventure unless you enjoy agility training in big waves!
Looking ahead to Saturday: The Western Division will see occasional rain, heavy at times, with a side order of thunderstorms. Winds will be moderate to strong—think 40 km/hr on average, with gusts that could take your hat off—60 km/hr! Yikes! Prepare for rough to very rough seas as well. Other regions can expect cloudy periods with the same afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms.
**Specific Forecasts:**
– **Navua/Suva/Nausori**: Rain and thunder—just another day in paradise. Max: 30°C.
– **Nadi/Lautoka/Ba**: The rain will keep rolling in. Max: 30°C.
– **Yasawa/Mamanuca**: Same rain story; your friends the thunderstorms could pop by too. Max: 30°C.
– **Rotuma**: A bit of a lull with a few brief showers; put those drinks outside to be “washed” if you will! Max: 30°C.
Whether you’re dodging raindrops or enjoying the thunderous concert overhead, stay dry and keep that sense of humor intact. After all, future sunny days are just around the corner—hopefully with less waterworks!
