Weather Update – A Splash of Fun

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, December 17, 2025

Grab your umbrellas, Fiji, because we’re in for quite the wet adventure! A heavy rain alert is still hanging around the Northern Division, Yasawa, Northern Lau, and Lomaiviti. And just to keep things interesting, a flash flood alert is also in play for the entire Fiji group. It seems the weather gods are feeling generous with the showers!

What’s the situation? It looks like a rather lazy trough of low pressure is lounging over Fiji, bringing along some fluffy clouds and a whole lot of rain for the next few days – like it promised a tropical getaway but forgot its sunscreen!

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:

Expect occasional showers with some heavy splashes and the occasional thunder boom, particularly over our favorite northern spots like Yasawa, Northern Lau, Lomaiviti, and those elsewheres on eastern Viti Levu (yes, we’re talking about you, Serua-Namosi, Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, and Ra). Tomorrow, the rain may become a bit more enthusiastic over Vanua Levu, Yasawa, Northern Lau, and Lomaiviti – perhaps it’s just trying to impress!

Elsewhere, expect partly cloudy skies with a few shy showers and a chance of some afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Fair warning: those persistent heavy falls could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, so keep your shoes on and your sense of adventure strong!

Winds will be moderate to fresh, best described as a playful, gusty mix from the southeast to the north, especially in the party zones of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The seas are playing it rough, too, with moderate to rough conditions.

Looking ahead to Friday: More of the same! Occasional rain, isolated heavy showers, and some dramatic thunder claps to keep you on your toes over the Northern Division and those humid districts of Yasawa, Lomaiviti, and eastern Viti Levu. Just like a good sitcom, there will also be some partly cloudy breaks with a sprinkle or two elsewhere, so stay tuned!

Here’s what to expect for your specific regions:

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Get ready for those occasional showers and isolated heavy falls with thunder cheering you on. Tomorrow’s temperature is a cozy Min: 23, Max: 28.

For Natadradave/Korovou: You’re in for a similar treat with showers and thunder. It’ll be Min: 23, Max: 28, so don’t forget to keep that umbrella handy!

For Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, and Taveuni: You’ve all got similar rain and thunder situations lined up. So be prepared for Min: 23, Max: 29 tomorrow. Surprise!

For Lau and Lomaiviti group: Just like a family reunion, expect showers and thunderstorms. Rain will be increasing tomorrow, too. Min: 23, Max: 29 should be the forecast.

For Kadavu: You’ll get a little sunshine peeking through those clouds, but don’t let your guard down – the afternoon thunder might just crash your picnic. Expect Min: 23, Max: 30!

Lastly, for Rotuma: Get ready for a splash party with periods of heavy rain and thunder. Try to stay dry with tomorrow’s Min: 25, Max: 29!

So there you have it, folks. Fiji is ready for a dramatic couple of days. Keep your raincoat ready, put on those flip-flops that are somewhat waterproof, and remember – every raindrop is a chance for some dance moves!
