Weather Update: January 30, 2026

Hold on to your hats (and maybe your umbrellas) because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still in play for the Northern Division, Eastern and Interior parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu, and the surrounding small islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. It seems the clouds have decided to throw a party, and everyone’s invited!

So what’s causing this soggy shindig? A low-pressure trough is hanging out over the Northern and Eastern areas of Fiji—kind of like that one friend who shows up uninvited and stays too long. Rain and showers will continue to rain on the parade until tomorrow, so don’t forget your raincoat!

Now for the forecast tonight before you hit the sack:
Expect occasional rain in the eastern and northern stretches of Viti Levu (think Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Tailevu, and Naitasiri-Ra), as well as in Vanua Levu, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. If you find yourself elsewhere, it’ll be partly cloudy with just enough isolated showers or perhaps even a surprise thunderstorm to keep you on your toes. Just a heads-up: localized heavy downpours could result in some flash flooding in those low-lying spots, so it might be a good idea to keep those rubber boots handy!

As for wind? A delightful mixture of moderate to fresh northwest to southerly breezes will be sweeping through, and don’t even think about setting sail unless you enjoy rough seas!

Looking ahead to Saturday:
Get ready for some more excitement in the form of occasional showers and a few thunderstorms across Navua, Suva, and the likes. The rest of us will have cloudy spells that may surprise with a shower or two here and there, plus a little thunder to spice things up. Just like last weekend, heavy rainfalls could lead to flash flooding, so avoid those low areas!

For your local forecast:
– In Navua/Suva/Nausori: Occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms loom. Min: 24° Max: 30°.
– Natadradave/Korovou: Same gloomy vibe with rain and thunder. Min: 24° Max: 30°.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: A partly cloudy mix with some afternoon or evening showers. Min: 24° Max: 30°.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: A near-identical story to the Coral Coast—hang onto your drink if you’re on the patio! Min: 24° Max: 31°.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Partly cloudy with suggestions of showers lurking. Min: 24° Max: 31°.
– Labasa: Occasional rain makes an appearance alongside thunderstorms. Min: 24° Max: 32°.
– Savusavu: More rain and thunder action here too! Min: 24° Max: 31°.

And for our always adventurous Rotuma?
A STRONG WIND WARNING is strutting its stuff across the waters and land areas thanks to that cheeky trough. Expect gusty northwesterly winds and rough seas while you’re dodging rain showers that just might be heavy enough to water the entire island. Min: 24° Max: 30°.

Stay safe, stay dry, and remember: keep that umbrella handy because poor weather is still the hottest trend in Fiji right now!
