Weather Update
Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30 am on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Hold onto your hats and grab your umbrellas because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still in effect for the Fiji Group! Yes, you heard it right, it’s time to stay inside if you want to avoid becoming a human sponge.
In addition, we’re also have a STRONG WIND WARNING for the land areas of Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, northern Vanua Levu, and the western and northern regions of Viti Levu. So, if you were planning on using an umbrella today, I’d suggest some heavy-duty hardware – or maybe just a good raincoat.
Now, onto the situation report: Tropical Disturbance TD07F is hanging out just east of northern Vanuatu and seems to be considering a road trip south-southeast towards Fiji over the next few days. This means we can expect some generous helpings of heavy rain and winds that could make your hair take flight and your hat go missing!
Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji Group:
Get ready for moderate to fresh east to northeast winds that are probably fantasizing about getting a promotion to the northwest! Speaking of which, buckle up for some winds from the northwest that may whiz by at 55 km/h and gusts reaching up to 85 km/hr later today!
As for the seas, we’re looking at moderate to rough conditions, and it’s about to turn rougher, so think twice before you don your swimsuit and get adventurous.
Cloudiness is the name of the game with scattered showers around Navua, Suva, Nausori, and a few other areas. Just think of it as nature’s way of keeping things interesting. Enjoy the occasional brief downpours over most places followed by more rain and possibly some thunderstorms later – it’s like Mother Nature is giving us double the drama today.
Now, if you’re looking for the highlights for Thursday, expect periods of rain that might cause some low-lying areas to start thinking about building arks. And yes, a few thunderstorms may join the party, so keep your outdoor plans flexible!
Here’s the detailed forecast for specific areas:
– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Cloudy conditions come equipped with showers! Rain and thunderstorms will also be thundering in from later. Min: 22, Max: 32.
