The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued warnings of strong winds and heavy rainfall expected to impact the Fiji Group starting tomorrow. A Heavy Rain Alert is presently enforced nationwide, complemented by Strong Wind Alerts for various land and marine zones.

These alerts are prompted by Tropical Disturbance TD07F, which was confirmed and officially numbered at midday today. It is currently positioned northeast of Vanuatu and far northwest of Fiji. The weather system is anticipated to travel south-southeast between Vanuatu and Fiji over the next couple of days, holding a slight chance of escalating into a tropical cyclone. However, it is projected to strengthen into a tropical depression by tomorrow.

Strong northwest winds are expected to reach speeds of up to 55 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially hitting 80 kilometers per hour, particularly affecting the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, northern Vanua Levu, western and northern Viti Levu, Kadavu, and surrounding islands. The surrounding waters, including the Vatu-i-Ra Passage, are also forecasted to experience these strong winds.

An active low-pressure trough is anticipated to bring bouts of heavy rain throughout the country starting later tomorrow, with winds expected to subside by Thursday and rainfall gradually diminishing by Friday. In light of these developments, the Fiji Meteorological Service advises the public to remain vigilant and stay updated with weather reports.

This situation highlights the importance of preparedness and adaptation to the challenges posed by tropical disturbances, encouraging communities to stay informed and proactive in managing potential impacts.
