Weather Alert from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi, issued at a bright and cheerful 5:30 AM on November 20, 2025.
Hold onto your hats – or your beach umbrellas if you’re feeling optimistic! A STRONG WIND ALERT has been issued for the land areas of Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and the smaller islands nearby, as well as Taveuni and its charming little neighbors. It seems we’ve got a weak trough of low pressure hanging out and making our weather a bit moody, accompanied by moist northeasterly winds that are perhaps a little too friendly.
Today’s forecast for Fiji is like a surprise party – there’s occasional rainfall, heavy at times, and a handful of thunderstorms crashing the celebration over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra-Rakiraki, as well as Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, and their merry band of smaller islands, including Lau and Lomaiviti and Kadavu. Prepare for the possibility of localized heavy downpours that could lead to unexpected splashes in low-lying areas.
For those outside the shower zones? Enjoy a fine day, with just a sprinkle of afternoon or evening showers to keep things interesting. Thunderstorms might join in on the fun over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu too. Expect moderate to fresh southeasterly winds as well as seas that might remind you of a rollercoaster ride—moderate to rough, so hold on tight!
Looking ahead to Friday, the winds will put on a bit of a show, turning up the volume to 45 km/h over the land areas of Lau and Lomaiviti, Kadavu, and Taveuni, which could be great for kite-flying if you’re feeling adventurous!
In terms of temperature, if you’re in Navua/Suva/Nausori, expect some showers along with a max of 29 degrees Celsius. For Sigatoka/Coral Coast, keep it fine with a max of 30, apart from the evening waterworks. Nadi/Lautoka/Ba will see similar fair weather but won’t be exempt from the occasional afternoon sprinkle.
Rakiraki might get a little dramatic with those occasional thunderstorms, while Labasa and the Yasawa/Mamanuca group will enjoy their share of sunshine—at least until the skies feel like playing.
For the island of Rotuma, be prepared for a touch of everything – some cloudiness, showers, and even a splash of isolated thunderstorms to keep things lively.
So, whether you’re planning a beach day, a stroll, or simply a cozy evening indoors, make sure to grab an umbrella or a windbreaker – you know, just in case Mother Nature feels particularly generous today!
