Weather Update: A Stormy Affair Ahead!
Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi on the evening of Monday, February 23, 2026.
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING means heavy rainfall is gearing up to throw a party, particularly over Vanua Levu. A low-pressure trough has decided to take a vacation in our northern and eastern regions, and it’s bringing along a few clouds and showers for company. Get ready; these sky guests will be spreading out across the country starting tomorrow.
The forecast for Fiji as we approach midnight tomorrow looks like this: expect occasional rain with some delightful (or not-so-delightful if you’re not a fan) isolated thunderstorms and heavy downpours, especially in Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, and those charming nearby smaller islands, as well as the northern Lau group.
In Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra-Rakiraki, Bua province, Lomaiviti, and the rest of the Lau group, expect a mix of cloudy periods, brief showers, and perhaps a thunderstorm insisting on stealing the show.
For places further afield, it may remain fine apart from a few afternoon or evening showers. Still, don’t be surprised if some cheeky thunderstorms crash the party. As rain spreads across the nation tomorrow, remember: localized heavy falls could lead to surprise flash floods in low-lying and flood-prone areas, so keep your swim gear handy!
Winds from the northeast to southeast will gallivant around the islands, becoming fresh and moderate as the days roll on. And for those of you planning to venture out to sea, prepare for moderate seas gradually turning rougher by tomorrow.
Looking into Wednesday’s crystal ball, more occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms are on the way. Another day where localized heavy falls could lead to flash floods. Cheers to that!
