Weather Delight

Good morning, sunshine enthusiasts! Hold on to your hats because it looks like Mother Nature is about to unleash her wild side on us. Yes, folks, a HEAVY RAIN WARNING is in effect for the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and those cheeky nearby smaller islands. So, grab your umbrellas; it may not just be a sprinkle!

And if you’re in Macuata and Northern Bua provinces, don’t get too comfy because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is rolling in like an uninvited party guest. If you want the nitty-gritty, check out the Special Weather Bulletin for Heavy Rain at https://www.met.gov.fj/alerts. Spoiler alert: it’s wet!

Now, let’s get breezy! A STRONG WIND WARNING is blowing through the land areas of the Western Division, Yasawa, Mamanuca groups, and Kadavu. If you’re in the Lau or Lomaiviti groups, those strong winds are also here to keep you on your toes.

What’s stirring up this weather chaos, you ask? A lazy trough of low pressure is hanging around Fiji, and Tropical Cyclone URMIL is slinking off to the southeast. It’s going to send some strong and moist northwesterly winds our way, so expect a deluge and maybe some thunder to make your day more exciting!

Forecast until midnight tonight for the Fiji group:

In the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and the nearby small islands, expect occasional showers that may morph into the heavy rainmaker—yes, with a side of thunder! And don’t forget those moderate to fresh winds packing a punch, averaging about 45 km/h and gusting up to 60 km/h. Hold on to your hats, folks!

For the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, fasten your raincoats! Showers accompanied by isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms are in store. Elsewhere, you can expect some partly cloudy skies in the afternoon with unpredictable showers and thunderstorms popping up like surprise guests at a party.

Now, a little heads-up: localized heavy falls could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. Grab your rain boots and take heed!

Looking ahead to Sunday: If you were hoping for a calm day, think again! Strong northwesterly winds will be zooming through at 45 km/h with those cheeky gusts hitting 60 km/h.
