Weather Update
Issued by your friendly neighborhood Weather Gurus at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 – yes, the future is here, and it’s damp!
Attention, Fiji Islands! It’s about to get wetter than an octopus in a water balloon factory. A HEAVY RAIN WARNING is still in full effect, so grab your umbrellas and prepare for a potential splash zone!
Now, in a little silver lining, the flood warning for certain areas has been downgraded to a flood alert. So, if you live near the Nakauvandra River, Yaqara River, Tavua River, or the scenic flood plains of the Ba River, you can breathe a sigh of relief – but still keep your rain boots close!
Meanwhile, the Nadi River, Nawaka River, and Tuva River are still on alert, and for those in Viti Levu, it might be best to avoid the whole “sailing on your canoe to work” plan for now as there’s still a flash flood warning in place.
What’s going on out there? A slow-moving trough of low pressure has decided it likes the sights and sounds of Fiji a bit too much. It’s leading to occasional rain, heavy showers, and maybe even a bit of thunder to keep things interesting. Hold onto your hats—or, you know, your umbrellas!
From now until the clock strikes midnight tomorrow, expect rain to pop in now and then, particularly over Kadavu and Southern Lau. Other regions can expect an occasional drizzle or a rogue thunderstorm, all capped off with some delightful heavy falls. Just when you thought it was safe to leave the house—surprise!
As we eye Thursday, the forecast features a mix of cloud and occasional showers, sprinkled with a side of isolated thunderstorms. And don’t forget, rain in the afternoon may bring some thunderous applause from our cloudy friends. It seems Viti Levu and Vanua Levu just can’t get enough of this wet weather.
Here’s a smattering of local forecasts to get you through:
– **Navua / Suva / Nausori**: Expect rain and potential thunderstorms, easing up by tomorrow. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– **Natadradave/Korovou**: Same story, with rain and thunderstorms expected, but a silver lining on the horizon as things clear up a bit. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: Occasional rain here too, so bring your water shoes! Min: 25, Max: 30.
– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba**: A mirror of the previous forecasts, with occasional rain ready to drench you! Min: 25, Max: 30.
– **Labasa and Savusavu**: Same old tale! Rain, thunder, and cloudy days are still in the bucket. Min: 25, Max: 30.
For those in **Taveuni and the Lau and Lomaiviti group**, prepare for cloudy spell ups, punctuated by showers – yes, the theme of the week is “bring your rain gear.”
Rotuma is hanging out with a slow-moving trough, leading to some cloudiness and showers as well. Min: 24, Max: 31.
So, there you have it folks – keep your spirits high and your umbrellas handy! And remember, it’s just rain; it’s not like anyone’s going to get their beach blanket out anytime soon!
