Weather Update Alert!

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at a rather lazy 3:30 PM on Friday, February 27th, 2026.

Grab your umbrellas, folks! The Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and those charming tiny islands nearby are still under a HEAVY RAIN ALERT. And if you thought the weather couldn’t get wilder, think again! A STRONG WIND ALERT is also waving its arms for attention over the Western Division land areas.

What’s brewing? A lazy trough of low pressure is hanging around, bringing with it a mix of clouds and showers that’s been moving slower than a turtle on vacation. Meanwhile, watch out for Category 1 Tropical Cyclone URMIL, lounging near Vanuatu and preparing to take a southeast detour that will whip up some breezy chaos around Fiji starting Saturday.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:

**Western Division and Kadavu:**
Prepare for a dramatic duet of occasional showers, heavy at times, and the kind of thunder that could have you checking your ceiling for leaks. Expect the rain to throw a party and get frequent and heavy as we dance into the weekend. Moderate northerly winds will get a little more boisterous with speeds jumping to 40 km/hr, and those gusts? They’ll dance up to 60 km/hr. Seas will be rough – remember, no one needs a surprise swimming lesson!

**Interior and Northeastern Parts of the bigger Islands:**
You might find yourself in the front row to an atmospheric show, with occasional showers that might just tap into some heavy drama, along with a thunderstorm or two. Pack your water wings – localized heavy downpours could lead to some unexpected flash flooding in low-lying areas!

**Elsewhere:**
Cloudy with sporadic afternoon or evening showers, accompanied by the heavens hitting a high note with thunderstorms and heavy falls sprinkled in.

**Outlook for Sunday:**
Hold onto your hats, as the Western Division and Kadavu are preparing for another round of rain, thunder, and possibly the neighbors’ wind chimes playing the blues. Expect fresh and strong north to northwest winds, so don’t be surprised if your hair takes flight!

For locals, here’s the forecast scoop:
– **Navua / Suva / Nausori:** Showers and a chance for grumpy thunderstorms. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– **Natadradave/Korovou:** Wash, rinse, repeat with occasional showers and heavy drops. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast:** Hold onto your beach towels; the winds and showers are coming in strong! Min: 25, Max: 30.
– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:** Similar shenanigans with rain making frequent appearances. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– **Tavua/Rakiraki, Yasawa/Mamanuca group, Labasa, and Savusavu:** Expect an encore of showers and thunderstorms. Min: 25, Max: 30.

Chasing over to Rotuma, expect the pressure to remain low, with occasional heavy showers just hanging around like an unwanted party guest.

Keep those umbrellas handy, and remember: every storm eventually passes, but we can still enjoy the show while it lasts!
