The people of Fiji are being urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the country grapples with heavy rainfall and strong winds. Mosese Bulitavu, the Minister for Disaster Management, has confirmed that the Fiji Meteorological Service has provided updated weather forecasts to the Minister for Public Works. In response, the National Disaster Risk Management Office has disseminated guidance focused on preparedness.

With predictions of ongoing rain and gusty winds, local authorities are advising the public to refrain from venturing out to sea. Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas are encouraged to seek higher ground if conditions worsen. Bulitavu has also highlighted the importance of securing clean drinking water and boiling it when necessary. He recommends that families keep children indoors and away from floodwaters.

To ensure safety, the Minister has urged the community to stay updated by monitoring weather reports through radio and other official channels. This information will enable residents to make informed decisions, safeguarding themselves and their families during these adverse weather conditions. Bulitavu emphasized that being prepared and aware is vital for minimizing risks and reducing the impact of the severe weather on vulnerable communities.

As Fiji faces these challenges, the call for vigilance serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of its people in the face of natural adversities.
