Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:30pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2026

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN WARNING is still clinging to the Fiji Islands like a stubborn party guest. That’s right, the whole of Fiji is bracing for an epic downpour of liquid sunshine that may just transform your backyard into a rather picturesque lagoon.

To add to the excitement, we also have a FLASH FLOOD WARNING in effect for all of Fiji. It seems Mother Nature has decided to throw in some free swimming lessons for everyone in low-lying areas, so make sure you’ve got your floaties ready!

And if you thought wind was just for kites, think again! A STRONG WIND WARNING is blowing through coastal areas, including Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and numerous other locations. Winds are expected to dance between 35 to 45 km/hr and throw in some thrilling gusts hitting 60 km/hr. Hold on to your hats, hats off, and everything in between!

So, what’s happening under the clouds? Well, an active trough of low pressure is stirring up a storm along with an embedded shallow low pressure that’s just hanging out southwest of Viti Levu. Together they’re orchestrating a delightful performance of heavy rain, squally thunderstorms, and strong winds, set to roll through until the weekend. Don’t forget your raincoat!

Tonight’s forecast calls for fresh to strong northwest winds over coastal areas, with rough seas looking like they might crash your beach plans. A buffet of rain will be served frequently, with heavy portions in the evening!

For the rest of the week:
– Expect more rain on Friday with a solid chance of thunderstorms trying to steal the spotlight. And just in case you were planning to do something outdoorsy – our forecast is whispering “Let’s stay cozy inside!”

Now, let’s break it down by region:
**Nadi/Lautoka/Ba**: Fresh northwest winds, occasional showers, and heavy rain later — sounds like the perfect excuse for a Netflix binge!
**Navua/Suva/Nausori**: Rain’s a-comin’! This will be a great day for hot chocolate.
**Yasawa and Mamanuca**: Can’t escape that rain and wind. Maybe the next Castaway movie can be filmed here!
**Labasa**: Similar weather, but remember: life jackets are optional!

Stay tuned for local updates, and don’t forget to practice your rain dance skills. Who knows? It might even help divert some of this downpour! Keep safe, and may your rubber ducks float!
