Weather Update
Hello, fellow Fiji dwellers! Grab your galoshes and umbrellas because it’s going to be a wet and wild day ahead! The weather wizards at the National Weather Forecasting Centre have issued a heavy rain alert for the entire Fiji group, so it’s officially time to start worrying about your sock collection—thankfully, water wings are not required.
A flash flood alert is also in effect, so if you happen to be planning a swim in your backyard, you might want to reconsider. And let’s just say that our lovely low-lying flood-prone areas should be bracing themselves for a bit of an unwanted splash party near the Nakauvadra River around Rakiraki and Yaqara River. No diving in please—there’s a flood warning for those spots!
So, what’s happening in the skies? A pesky trough of low pressure has decided to hang around just south of us, bringing along a generous serving of clouds and rain that’ll linger on until later today. The winds are expected to blow in from the east-northeast, likely sending your nearby palm trees into a dancing frenzy.
As for your Saturday night plans, prepare for occasional rain and a few adventurous thunderstorms that might bring some isolated hefty rainfall. The rain is expected to ease to mere showers over the Northern Division later tonight, but that’s tomorrow’s problem!
Now, looking ahead to Monday, we’re faced with cloudy periods and plenty of reasons to break out the raincoat. The eastern and interior regions of our beloved islands may experience some showers, while the rest of you can stay dry for the most part… until those infamous afternoon pop-up showers remind you that you should’ve brought an umbrella just in case.
Here’s what you can expect in different regions:
For Navua/Suva/Nausori: Expect some liquid sunshine and a few thunderstorms among your downpours today, tapering gently into showers tomorrow. Today’s max is 31, with a cozy 24 as tomorrow’s low.
For Natadradave/Korovou: Same story here—occasional rain and thunderstorms. Your umbrellas will definitely get some action today and tomorrow.
For the always beautiful Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Occasional rain, a few thunderstorms, and maybe a chance to practice your dance moves in the puddles. Hang tight for the rain to ease tomorrow.
For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: It’s another rainy affair with possible thunder booms, but hold on tight—you might just spot a rainbow after the rain!
For Tavua/Rakiraki: Just like the others, rain and thunder will make a guest appearance throughout the day, but don’t worry, the showers will ease up tomorrow.
For Labasa and Savusavu: You’ll both see occasional rain, with a side of thunderstorms, leading to some dramatic sky shows over the weekend.
For the Yasawa/Mamanuca group and your tropical paradise: Enjoy occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms before things calm down tomorrow.
Elsewhere, places like Taveuni, Kadavu, and Lau will also join the reindeer games of rain and thunderstorms—don’t forget your raincoat!
And that’s your weather scoop! Keep your spirits up, stay dry, and remember: every cloud has a silver lining… or at least a puddle to jump in!
