Weather Alert

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30 AM on January 16, 2026.

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A heavy rain warning is still hanging around like that one friend who never knows when to leave—specifically for the northern and eastern parts of the Fiji group!

And guess what? Flash flood warnings are now in full effect for the entire Fiji area. That’s right—a splash zone throughout the islands! Check the details at: https://www.met.gov.fj/alerts/

As for the dreaded strong wind warning, it’s decided to take a vacation—that’s right, it has been cancelled for coastal areas including Rakiraki-Tailevu North, various Bua locations, and more. So, feel free to strut your stuff along the coast, just don’t forget your raincoat!

The situation today is brought to you by an active trough of low pressure that’s been settling in over the northern and eastern parts of Fiji like a house guest that overstays their welcome. Rain and clouds are expected to keep ruining our beach plans until Sunday.

Forecast for today until midnight: Expect numerous rain showers, which will be heavy at times; you might even hear some thunder clap in approval! Areas like Ra-Naitasiri-Tailevu North, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby islands will likely be the rain’s favorite spots. Elsewhere, brace for light showers and the occasional raging afternoon thunderstorm.

Take note! The persistent heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding—so if you see a river that looks more like a raging river, maybe take a different route!

Winds will be moderately north to northwest, and sea conditions are expected to be moderate to rough. So, if you’re planning a boat trip, maybe save that idea for a sunny day instead.

Looking ahead to Saturday: The forecast is practically predicting a repeat episode of today’s weather. Expect occasional rain over Rakiraki, Tailevu North, Vanua Levu, and various other hair-raising locations. After all, who doesn’t love a good thunderstorm drama?

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect showers and occasional thunder to remind you that nature is still very much in control. Min: 24, Max: 31.
For Saturday: Same script—cloudy with more showers and a side of thunderstorms. Min: 24, Max: 29.

And the same goes for all the fabulous towns and islands you love: from Sigatoka to Savusavu and beyond, expect the lovely rain to keep pouring down, with temperatures hanging in the mid-20s to low 30s.

So, grab your favorite rain boots, cozy up with a hot drink, and maybe think about nurturing your indoor hobbies—like building that puzzle you keep avoiding! Stay safe!
