Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi
At 3:30 PM on this fine Wednesday, June 4, 2025, we’ve got quite the weather drama unfolding across the beautiful Fiji Group. First, let’s address the elephant in the room, or should we say, the heavy rain alert? Yes, it’s true – we’re expecting our fair share of watery goodness, so grab that umbrella, unless you want to practice your indoor swimming skills!
Now, if you’re in the coastal regions of Lau and Lomaiviti groups, consider this your official heads-up – a coastal inundation alert is still in effect. But worry not, the beaches of Sigatoka (including the Coral Coast), Serua/Namosi, Mamanuca Group (including Malolo), and Kadavu have been given a clean bill of health – for now!
Here’s the scoop: An east to northeast wind (no, it’s not the wind that blew that last coconut off your beach chair) is hanging out over Fiji. Meanwhile, a low-pressure trough is rolling in from the west, bringing with it clouds and rain, and it looks like it’s planning a party from tomorrow afternoon until Saturday morning. Expect occasional rain and some thunder to join the festivities.
Forecasting the chaos until midnight tomorrow:
For our friends in the coastal areas of Lau and Lomaiviti, brace yourselves for potential sea flooding during high tides. As for today, it’s a cloudy affair with scattered showers over areas like Serua-Namosi, Navua, Suva, and some other lovely spots – a veritable shower buffet!
Tomorrow, the rain kicks things into high gear as it dances in from the west and north. Expect a few drama-filled thunderstorms to crash the party, with heavy rain showing up to the event uninvited. Moderate east to northeast winds will also join the gathering, with seas looking moderately to roughly shaken.
Outlook for Friday: The rain will keep up its shenanigans with more heavy falls and occasional thunder rolls, but don’t worry; it should ease from the west later in the day.
Let’s break it down for specific locations:
Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect cloudy skies with some drizzles. Tomorrow afternoon, heavy rain and thunderstorms will add to the mix, making it quite the exciting spectacle.
Sigatoka / Coral Coast: High tide flooding could be on the agenda. The sun might make a brief appearance, but don’t be fooled—that rain and thunder are just around the corner.
Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: It’s mainly fine today, but tomorrow looks to be reserved for some rain and thunder.
Tavua / Rakiraki: Much like others, you’ll see some clouds and showers. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the near future.
Natadradave / Korovou: Cloudy skies with showers will greet you. Get ready for some heavyweight rain and occasional thunder tomorrow.
Yasawa / Mamanuca group: Watch out for potential sea flooding during high tides. Mainly fine today, with stormy weather making an appearance tomorrow.
Labasa: Mainly fine for now, but that’s just a warm-up for tomorrow’s heavy rain and thunder festivities.
Savusavu: Cloudy periods with showers. The rain is just getting started.
Lau / Lomaiviti: Coastal flooding awaits during high tides, along with overcast skies and showers – you know the drill.
Kadavu: Coastal flooding alert, plus rain and thunderstorms are rolling in tomorrow.
Rotuma: We haven’t forgotten our friends in Rotuma! A strong wind warning is in effect, accompanied by some rough seas and the occasional shower – consider it a blustery breeze with benefits!
So, whether you’re planning a beach day or just looking to stay dry indoors, remember that adventures in weather can happen at any moment. Stay safe, and keep that umbrella handy!
