Weather Update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30am on Monday, December 8, 2025
Let’s keep it real, folks: the heavy rain is making a grand entrance and it’s sticking around for the entire Fiji group. If your plans include outdoor activities, you might want to trade your sandals for some galoshes!
What’s happening? A mischievous trough of low pressure has decided to throw a cloud party, complete with rain and the occasional thunderstorm, across our beautiful islands. The good news? The rain is expected to settle down over the western part of Viti Levu by tonight. But until then, it’s a wet and wild ride, my friends!
Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Expect rain, scattered in some areas but heavy enough to make you wonder if you’ve wandered into a water park. Thunderstorms might crash the party. By later today, we’ll see the rain ease up (thank goodness!). Winds will be moderate to fresh, just enough to mess up your hair, and seas moderate to rough, so hold on to your swimsuits!
Looking ahead to Tuesday: Occasional showers and a few more thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the smaller islands in the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere, you can expect some delightful afternoon or evening showers. What a generous forecast, right? Winds will remain moderate, and seas should be manageable for those brave enough to take them on.
Now, let’s break it down for specific locations:
For Navua / Suva / Nausori: It’s a rain-athon with the possibility of thunderstorms. Don’t worry, the rain will mellow out into showers later. Today’s temperatures will linger between 23°C and 29°C – perfect for puddle jumping!
For Natadradave/Korovou: More rain and thunderstorms, but they’ll calm down into showers by the end of the day. Expect a range of 23°C to 29°C.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: The rain and thundershowers will continue their dance, easing into showers later. Weather forecast? 23°C minimum, 29°C maximum.
For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: A bit of cloudiness will keep things interesting, along with some brief showers. Temperatures will happily hover between 22°C and 31°C.
In Tavua/Rakiraki, it will be a splashy day of rain and thunderstorms, easing later with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 31°C.
The Yasawa/Mamanuca group isn’t escaping the rain either – same song, different island, with highs around 31°C.
Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti group, and Kadavu are all in for some entertaining weather antics with rain and thunderstorms easing into showers later. Temps? All around 23°C to 31°C.
And, last but definitely not least, Rotuma: It looks like the sun is trying to shine, albeit briefly interrupted by showers. A comfortable 24°C to 31°C is expected, but don’t put those umbrellas away just yet!
Stay dry, have fun, and remember: there’s no such thing as too much rain – just too few raincoats!
