Weather Update – Saturday, February 7, 2026
Ladies and gentlemen, grab your umbrellas and prepare your best rain dance moves, because we have a heavy rain alert in effect for the entire Fiji group! Yes, that’s right, the skies are getting ready for their performance tonight and, spoiler alert, it might get a little wet.
For our friends in Vanua Levu, a flash flood warning is in place; for those on Viti Levu, we have a flash flood alert. It’s not quite a swimming party just yet, but it seems like Mother Nature is prepping her own water feature!
What’s brewing, you ask? A slow-moving trough of low pressure is hanging about just to the southwest of Fiji, and it’s brought along plenty of cloud and rain for a big ol’ party that will last at least until late tomorrow. Expect an east to northeast wind – think of it as a gentle nudge from a friend, but just before you take that refreshing dip.
Forecast for the next few hours: We’re looking at occasional rain, a few cheeky thunderstorms, and the possibility of isolated heavy downpours in most locations. As the night progresses, the rain should ease to showers in the Northern Division, but be prepared for persistent heavy falls that may lead to flash flooding in those sneaky low-lying areas.
The wind will be moderate to fresh, and occasionally gusty, especially when the rain decides it wants to put on a show! Be cautious out there – it’s going to be a mix of moderate to rough seas!
Looking ahead to Monday: Expect cloudy periods with some showers to grace the eastern and interior parts of the larger islands. Other areas might be as fine as a beach day, apart from the possibility of those pesky afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms sneaking in.
