The FIJI Water Foundation, along with FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical, has collaborated to revitalize the Children’s Ward at Lautoka Hospital just in time for Christmas. This initiative is part of their Wonderful Neighbour Project, which aims to enhance healthcare in the Western Division of Fiji.

The Wonderful Neighbour Project allows FIJI Water and NPDL employees to suggest and carry out impactful community projects. Each participant is granted $100 and eight hours of paid work to foster connections between the organizations and the communities they support. Gavin Whiteside, CEO of Aspen Medical in Fiji, expressed gratitude for the enhancements, stating that the contributions made to the Children’s Ward will benefit many families for years.

This year, 798 employees partook in 21 Wonderful Neighbour projects throughout Fiji, dedicating over 4,500 hours to volunteer efforts. Semi Lotawa, director of the FIJI Water Foundation, emphasized that this latest project underscores their commitment to promoting community pride and sustainable progress for Fiji.

The renovation included refreshing the waiting area, improving restroom facilities, and donating a washing machine and dryer. Additionally, new recreational equipment for children was installed, including a swing set and four tricycles. Other tasks completed involved power washing, painting, tiling, installing doors and louvres, landscaping, and building a clothesline, all supported by 120 employees over three days.

This heartwarming collaboration highlights the positive impact community-focused initiatives can have on local healthcare facilities, setting an inspiring example of corporate responsibility and community engagement.

In a world where community spirit and support are essential, such efforts remind us of the importance of giving back and the positive changes that can come from collective action.
