Fiji Water Supply Crisis: What You Need to Know

The Water Authority of Fiji is addressing a disruption in water supply affecting some customers reliant on the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant. Since Friday, the plant has been encountering high turbidity levels in the Waimanu River due to recent rainfall in the catchment area.

This elevated turbidity has led to an increase in sludge accumulation within the plant, which in turn has affected the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers. The mechanical failure has hindered the restoration of normal water production levels, impacting the supply to those affected.

WAF’s technical team is working tirelessly to resolve the issue and restore service as swiftly as possible. WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience during this challenge.
